Organization Profile: OpenStreetMap(略称OSM)は道路地図などの地理情報データを誰でも利用できるよう、フリーの地理情報データを作成することを目的としたプロジェクトです。自由に使えると思っている地図の多くが実は法的・技術的に問題があり、人々がクリエイティブに、生産的に、あるいは今まで予期しなかった方法でそれを利用する事を妨げているため、このプロジェクトは開始されました。(http://wiki.openstreetmap.orgより）このサイトは、OSMの日本における普及、プロジェクトへの参加啓蒙、日本語のリソース集約、プロジェクトドキュメント翻訳の進捗管理など、OSMプロジェクトの支援を目的として設置されています。
OpenStreetMap creates and provides free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants them. The project was started because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive, or unexpected ways.
