Grand Rapids, MI

Welcome to our lovely group. Jump in and introduce yourself.

Great Meetup

Hi all, great meeting you all last night.

So, would it be appropriate to throw out Drupal related questions here or is that kind of thing better served in the Drupal-wide forums?

Looking forward to our next meetup!

GRupal November Meetup

Start:
2009-11-09 18:00 - 20:00 America/Detroit
Organizers:

Monthly meetup at Wealthy Theatre!

From Denise Cheng (dennetmint):

Would you mind reminding people of the November meetup? First Monday of the month at Wealthy Theatre. We also need to figure out a topic, perhaps put it to a vote. I figured if we can't decide on something, we can always beg Ron to do a presentation on The Rapidian.

So, nominations for a topic?

Edit: now on the second Monday of the month to accommodate the Python user group.

Session Ideas

Denise, Ross, and I did some brainstorming at our first session of the (revived) group tonight. Here are some topic ideas for future sessions.

Session ideas that would require a presenter—someone who either knows a topic well or will do research prior to the meetup:
- Drupal project roadmap
- Search engine optimization
- JavaScript/jQuery and Drupal
- Performance
- Guest lecturers (people from out of town, etc.)

Session ideas that would be group-focused:
- Current projects you're working on
- Favorite/most used modules

Hi, there!

Just wanted to introduce myself, like the page asked me to. I'm Denise Cheng, and I just arrived from Portland, Ore. a couple of weeks ago. I attended the Drupal group there and found them to be an incredible resource (as well as really awesome people!). I'm currently working on a citizen journalism project for Grand Rapids called The Rapidian, and we're building our site with the use of Drupal. I'm planning to make it to any future Drupal meet-ups and look forward to meeting everyone!

My wife is an educational consultant and she wants to implement a Site for Teacher Networking, Resource Exchange, and Planning Tools. Her business website, which I created, runs in drupal 6. I would like her to have the site built within drupal because of my existing knowledge for ongoing support and such that I might learn from the final product. Implementing this site myself is beyond my capacity within a reasonable/definable time frame and with my work schedule.

Pledges and Donations

I'm interested in being able to set up a pledging system, that can enable donation bounties as a content type, and allows people to first pledge, then be billed if pledges reach a capped amount, or have no one billed of pledges do not reach an amount.

Is it already possible to do this with existing modules (like e-commerce and cck)? If not, I am committed to producing this capability, and would feedback from this group on suggestions about how to approach from a module creation standpoint

Hi, I'm Charlie ("Hi Charlie...")

Hi all, I'm a new GR group member and I live 50 miles north in Fremont MI (I've been here about 1.5 years, just moved here from the east coast, though I grew up in Wisconsin). My big goal for drupal in my life is to convert a FileMaker Pro database solution I developed for musicians called Indie Band Manager to drupal. I think it will require a few custom modules (in contact management, bookings, and financial tracking) and an installation profile... but I think most everything I need already exists and just needs to be tweaked.
