PR meeting IRC transcript
tg-D7PR-scribe: Amazon reports that about 17 people are on the call.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Joseph is about to post links to banners.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Joseph says not to post those links yet, as there are still PSD files in them -- he'll prepare and post.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Andy to talk about D7 press release .
tg-D7PR-scribe: Ariane gave us some links, other people put it in the D.O branding.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Sorry if I misspell names.]
webchick: http://drupal.org/node/953314 -- release announcement issue
webchick: http://sandbox.stevekarsch.com/d7/announcement.html -- nice branded one
tg-D7PR-scribe: (Oops, Andy = Angie, of course = webchick)
tg-D7PR-scribe: Call to look over the video and other materials at http://sandbox.stevekarsch.com/d7/announcement.html for errors, omissions, etc.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Comment: "It's not really clear what you do with D7. It's everything from blog, to intranet, etc."
tg-D7PR-scribe: "2nd issue: We don't identify our target audience. We can say, 'these are people who have been successful with Drupal so far'".
tg-D7PR-scribe: "To give context."
tg-D7PR-scribe: Angie: Please write that in the issue. Response: It's done.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Amazon: Jim and Laurie have been working on messages for D7 around the press release.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Amazon: Tatiana's done a great job recruiting translators for the press release and the release announcement.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Amazon: Look at localize.d.o, try to target other languages that have a Drupal translation. (Currently 70ish, only 20ish press releases etc. translated.)
tg-D7PR-scribe: "We need to get quotes nailed down, but we're in good shape. We're going to try to send it out in advance of next week."
jojototh: Here are the links to the jpeg previews of the drupal get started and release party banners:
[removed old URLs, new ones posted to the group. Amazon]
tg-D7PR-scribe: Amazon: We've been passing the press release back and forth via email. We'll set up a Google Doc to let people review it.
tg-D7PR-scribe: webchick: Yes, good for community feedback.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Amazon: We looked at d.o guidelines for images etc. -- it specifies 20 different sizes.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Lost Amazon!]
Amazon: calling back in
tg-D7PR-scribe: We miss you!
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Kieran is back, and the angels sing.]
tg-D7PR-scribe: Bullet point #6. Joseph. Any feedback about images that Joseph made available?
tg-D7PR-scribe: We've been getting positive feedback from everybody. The only concern: Be sure the fonts are correct for our branding.
tg-D7PR-scribe: Also, check the colors on d.o.
tg-D7PR-scribe: So we're just going to go ahead with them.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick?] One concern: I thought it looked a lot like Microsoft 7 branding, but after some research I saw it wasn't.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [comment] The Drupal icon isn't there any more. Maybe it should be.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick] One possibility: To use the outline of the Druplicon, rather than a cut-and-paste. It looks nice now, and I'm worried about sticking a scary alien head in there. But I'm not sure.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Joseph]: I can try something, but unless it goes fast and well on the first ones, I'm not sure. But I'll try it.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]: I'm concerned that we're only 7 days away, so let's go with the ones we have now. Joseph, if you can come up with others with the mascot, we can do more with those.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon] Colin and Tom have put together a plan that uses social media as well as helping coordinate those social networks. We've corresponded; now we need to execute, so we need to prioritize. They're going to help drive those campaigns.
tg-D7PR-scribe: That's Colin and Tom from LevelTen.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon] More help is needed.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [comment] I can help. (name?)
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon] Is Bryan, more on the homepage?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Bryan] Steve and I did some stuff... moved some things out of the welcome mission block, segregated out the CVS link. Needs to add some more information tabs.
Amazon: We are looking for feedback on: http://groups.drupal.org/marketing-drupal
tg-D7PR-scribe: That link to see the current version is at http://groups.drupal.org/marketing-drupal
tg-D7PR-scribe: Jinx!
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Bryan] The mission statement needs some work. Steve and I tossed around some things, but input is needed.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon] Take a quick look at other open-source marketing pages
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]Laurie, have you talked about the media mailing lists? There were some concerns that we wouldn't get the attention of press people.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Laurie] I'd like to mail something out Monday, that way we can conduct interviews Monday or Tuesday.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Laurie] I think the end of this week will be slow for reporters, and Monday is the way to go.
jojototh: all banner images on one page: http://mogdesign.eu/preview/d7assets/index.html
greggmarshall: One thing to think of for next week and technology reporters is the Consumer Electronics Show press events start on Tuesday.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon] Release parties. Last week, we had a front page post on g.d.o, and a front page on d.o. We did a list of the top 50 cities that hadn't yet organized a party. We're at 160 parties right now -- amazing! I'd like to see us get to 200 out of the 400 local groups.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]I'm working with a Latin-American SWAT team, which has translated the party guide into Spanish and contacted all countries in Latin America.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]Questions about those parties?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [commenter]We need to coordinate a place to upload videos and photos from the parties live.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]Anyone on the call like to help coordinate that?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick?]I'll send something out over Twitter today.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [commenter]I can help as well.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Tom]We're helping to do a little along those lines also.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [latest commenter = Shamala (sp?)]
tg-D7PR-scribe: Tools: We primarily use UStream (?) for streaming, YouTube for static stuff.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Tom?] I'll work out the multi-user scenario.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Shamala]: I think it should be a shared login.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]: We'll get a shared login set up, or see whether UStream has some other system for multiple users.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon] Update on social media?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Tom] The big thing is to match up what g.d.o is capable of doing with the user stories. We've created a "big picture" document already.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Tom]Next step: I'll get you that document today or tomorrow.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]We'll get a shared Google doc for messaging.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]We need someone to build the local P.R. kits. Isabel, are you on the call?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]We'll also try to train regional P.R. reps.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]There will be another meeting 15 minutes after this one, same channel.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]Is there anybody who'd like to help with coordination of local press kits, getting them to printers etc.?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]Questions? Post them either on WebEx or IRC.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]No other questions? We'll plan the next meeting and wrap up.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick]Drupal 7 release will be late in the day Pacific Time on Tuesday. We'll possibly have a meeting during that tmime, but probably Wednesday morning to coordinate the PR efforts as it's all happening.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick]I probably won't be able to attend since I'll be busy with code, but call me if needed.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]Tom, what would be the most effective way to stay in touch?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Tom]You mean an inner loop? We could use Twitter or something.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]For questions, back-and-forth dialogue throughout the day, to escalate things...
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Tom]How about IRC?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick]drupal-contribute tends to be more general... perhaps drupal-marketing?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick]But also have someone continually spamming in the other channels to say, "This is happening in drupal-marketing, so go there for promotional stuff".
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Tom]Let me coordinate with Colin about having a back-channel.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [commenter?]Are we starting a countdown?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]We haven't done that yet.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [commenter]Do we want to do that? I think we should send out teasers, 'it's coming, 7 days from now', and start creating buzz, then do a countdown.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [muffled commenter]...
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick] Could we have a countdown timer (by day) on the front page of d.o?
caseysoftware: right above "develop with Drupal" would be good. it could fit well with the Drupal 7 pledge
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick] Joseph, to Laurie's point where we want consistent branding: Could we do a variation of the blue image that says "coming in X days" instead of "Get started"?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Joseph]Sure, I can create that for every day, and you'll have to have someone to switch it out.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick]I prefer the blue one because it's "getting started", while green is "party"-related.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick]Maybe rotate the blue banners ("Coming in X days") with the green party banners?
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick] (some talk about font sizes and wording to make it all fit.)
tg-D7PR-scribe: [Laurie?]We want to say "available" because that's what's in the press release.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick]: So "Available in 7 days, 6 days, etc...."... then when it's available, "Get started".
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]We'll get Tom and the social media team access to swap the images for the countdown banner.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]If anybody's interested to help with a lot of small things (about local parties), please speak up.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [webchick]Pit them against each other! (Just kidding...)
tg-D7PR-scribe: [commenter]But it works!
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]I'm talking about large user groups that don't have a party yet.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [amazon]Thanks for your time. Some folks will stay on.
tg-D7PR-scribe: [closed meeting]
tg-D7PR-scribe: [end of notes by me]
Thanks a lot to tgeller for the script.

Using the translated press release
What will be done with the translated press releases? Does the association only send an English press release to the US press and international press?
Can local groups send a translated press release to local press? If so, what about the contact information, can we add a local contact to the local (translated) press release?
