So the June Meetup is just around the corner. It will be held from 6 to 9pm at Mansueto,
7 World Trade Center / 250 Greenwich St., 29th Fl..
You must sign-up by 3pm June 24th to attend. Please click the sign-up button and make sure that you have your real name in your profile.
In honor of the recent conference call about improving the organization of local groups we should probably touch on the highlights of that.
Also, Joomla developer Anthony Ferrara has been talking with Oleg and offered to give a presentation about how Joomla works. While I'm a little concerned about the need to hire extra security to protect poor Anthony from the slings and arrows of Joomla haters, I do recognize that many people are interested in learning about the similarities and differences between Drupal and other content management systems. A poll has been posted here. Please vote.
Post comments on all other topics that you would like to present or discuss and we'll add them to the agenda.

Upcoming
For those of you who use Upcoming, I made an upcoming event for it: June Drupal NYC Meetup. I also made an Upcoming New York City Drupal group. If you guys want admin rights to it, give me a shout.
I like these upcoming events because Google automatically adds these events to my calendar.
You could also just add the ical link...

Nice!
Didn't know about that one.... Thanks!
clueless attending the meetup
hello,
i am not a developer or any sort of web guy. our non-profit org recently began shopping around for a designer and we were given a sample of drupal. we think that once we've got the site in place and designed we will take care of the content management. no techies among us, but no dummies either. in your honest opinion would it do me any good to attend a meetup like yours? would i learn anything that would benefit me and my group?
thanks for your time.
russell
Yes - it would be worthwhile
I'm not a techie and have been going for just over a year, I think, and had been using Drupal just a few months when I started. Sometimes portions of the meeting are a bit "insider" or very technical, but you can still learn a lot, find out about useful resources and where to go for more info, and meet interesting and helpful people. So I say at least try it out before you decide if it's worth continuing.

Disqus
I could do a quick little presentation on Disqus, a comment system web service I recently got working nicely with Drupal. It's an alternative to the comment module.
I'll be there
I'm sorry about the delay with contact, I was away at a conference the past few days.
I'll be covering the basics of Joomla! (what it is and what it is not, from a "general" view), and an introduction into development with Joomla! (a brief demonstration of the true power of Joomla! 1.5's design). From my experience, a lot of people have a misconception on what Joomla! is/does, and I would like to clear at least some of them up...
There are some places where a comparison needs to be made with Drupal, but those areas are not "which is better", but more along the lines of "In Drupal, you have X, and in Joomla!, we do it Y".
However, I would really like to stay away from a "which is better" debate. Every single one of them I have seen has been biased, or full of misinformation. I do not feel I know Drupal well enough, and I know Joomla! too well to be able to be fair, unbiased and complete. With that said, if people want to talk after the presentation about how they compare, I'll gladly contribute to a discussion...

Sounds interesting, Anthony. I'm looking forward to it.

Add yourself to the list on this site. I can't make the final call, but I think we should be able to get you in.
Hello all...
I figured before tonight I would introduce myself to everyone in the group. My name is Anthony and I have been a Web Applications Developer for a company called Thrillist for the last three months. We are currently molding Drupal to our needs and wants to build a pretty interesting content site. So far working with Drupal has been rewarding and fulfilling.
I look forward to meeting everyone tonight as this will be my first Drupal group meet.
See everyone there!

It was a very informative
It was a very informative meeting - thanks Anthony! (Don't tell anyone, I have since recommended Joomla to someone who needed a really easy-to-use CMS.)
Information sharing like this is great. Can't wait for the July meetup!
