User group meeting

This is great, we have two meetings under our belt. We are well on our way to being a legitimate group. Bring your friends!

Usually, I like to press the crowd at each meeting to set the agenda for the next meeting. So bring your topic ideas to the next meeting.

So in the effort to get something on the schedule Dan and I each volunteered to present our favorite module of the moment.

Dan Degeest will present the PicLens module which he just heard about two days again. Now he's looking for places to stick it. It's wonderful Eye-Candy, an "immersive slideshow experience"!

I (Michael Hofmockel) will present the Drush module which I have heard about for sometime, dragged my feet on trying and now will never go with out. Do you wish CVS checkout could be simplier and automated?

Drush turns commands like this:
"cvs -z6 -d:pserver:anonymous:anonymous@cvs.drupal.org:/cvs/drupal-contrib checkout -r DRUPAL-6--2-0-RC1 -d views contributions/modules/views"

into commands like this:
"drush pm install views"

For our next meeting, I'll also include the use of Drush Module Manager
Turns three or four clicks to enable a module into a four word shell command.

I recommend reading Sacha Chua's blog feed. She has written two Drush articles recently.

Drupal Shell: quickly evaluating PHP statements in a Drupal context

Running groups of Drupal tests from the command line

I use MAMP, its a really simple way to get your Dev environment running. Raincity Studios had a nice article to help with MAMP-Drush intallation.

Here is another little article on getting the command line mysql working with MAMP. http://blog.arc90.com/2008/03/mamp_mysql_command_line_access.php

*** Please do use the sign-up feature on the meeting event page. ****
Right now only Dan and I are signed up.

Iowa Drupal 25Aug08 Meeting reminder

Can't wait to see everyone tonight. Dan is rapidly sucking down the New Cooliris (formerly Piclens) and I'm learning everything Drush.

Tracking my new Pro Drupal Development shows it in Des Moines yesterday. Hopefully it will arrive in time to bring to the meeting. Anybody else got a copy yet? John, I know you have one. Hehe!

I also have a interesting surprise but you'll have to show up to see.

*again do signup if you are going to attend. This is really helpful to the organizers. I know there are others that are coming but not signed yet.
