I'm fairly certain some of us in the LA community are working on patches for Drupal (both for Drupal Core and for Contrib modules). I am currently doing the same and have noticed that quite a few issues fall by the wayside getting stuck on needs review or needs work (and some of the core developers are genuinely busy working on other (maybe larger) issues to give whatever we're working some TLC). I was wondering if anyone in the group would be interested in getting together and basically working on helping each other's issues get into the reviewed and tested by community stage or working towards a needs review or more. I don't know where or when or any other things. Just that I think it would be a great learning experience for anyone involved and we get to help make Drupal better and wanted to gauge interest in doing something impromptu :)

Sounds great, I'm down for
Sounds great, I'm down for it! I can offer a venue in Long Beach (same place we've used in the past for similar kinds of meetups) or my house could even work... especially in the summer. I've got a nice patio working area, similar deck as Benno. However, I know this is a bit far for you. Optionally, something like Phillipe's or another venue with wifi close to metro would be good.

Good idea. I'm in (via Metro, though)
I'd love to participate. I'm new to Drupal, and loved your lightning talk on patching, Ashok. Anywhere I can get to by public transit would be fine. I've done lots of other kinds of software tech, and enjoy what I've seen so far about Drupal.
Miike's Patio sounds good, requirements are??
Ashok, great idea. I'd like to do this. Maybe Benno would to? His Patio?
Mike, what's your bandwidth like? 50 meg down? ;-)
Ashok, when is CalArts going to host a Drupal meeting? :-)
I'm between you and Ashok, so I can drive either way.
For those thinking do I need to bring my laptop, or can I share with another? Do let the host know ahead of time that you will 'not' have a computer, so enough laptops can be present.
A weekend?

I can offer space in Santa
I can offer space in Santa Monica at the Riot Games offices in the posh Yahoo Center. Plenty of parking and can probably have food and drink provided. I am working towards porting several of my and others to D7 that could use some help. Also I would be more then happy to help teach anyone with any questions.
Code Sprint / BBQ
I love to have a code sprint / BBQ
The summer is here and I think this would be a great start for Hollywood Drupal.
How about a Saturday afternoon in a week or two . Anyways I am open
for suggestions.
Long Beach at Mike's sounds good too. Please give me your feedback.
Thanks Benno

Skip July 16 & 17 please
I would suggest that we do not do it on the weekend of July 16th and 17th. Traffic will probably be really bad, and I will be out of town.
The only way to Mikes house for anyone in the valley will be I5 or the 101 to the 110. CalTrans and LADOT are telling people to avoid Suplveda pass completely.

Paul, would you like to host at Droplabs?
Paul, would you like to host at Droplabs? It's centrally located, easily accessible by surface streets, has A/C during the day and if it goes past sunset we could fire up the grill and fire pit.
For what it's worth, 6 out of the 7 respondents so far at http://doodle.com/ndxv5k5a7g7wkb7r have said they're available for an organizers' meetup on the 17th. Whether it's at Benno's or Droplabs hasn't been decided but the organizers' meetup has been in the works for over a week and I wouldn't want it to conflict with the patching sprint.
second paragraph is off topic
second paragraph is off topic and would appreciate we stay focused on this thread.

Droplabs would be cool
I agree that Droplabs would be a good place because it's central to most of Los Angeles. We have plenty of workspace and parking there. A BBQ will be quite easy there, and on either Saturday or Sunday there won't be a lot of people at Big Art Labs so not a lot of distraction. We would have air conditioning, and we could set up a few tables for people that want to work outside.
A bonfire after the sprint would be good for the soul.
I also agree with Mike that the second paragraph is off topic.
My choices would be either Droplabs or Riot.

The paragraph about the
The paragraph about the organizers' meetup is relevant to anyone who wants to attend both events. I thought I was clear that I wouldn't want the two events to have a scheduling conflict, but I apologize for not being clear enough.
To get this back on track, I'm happy to meet anywhere. Riot Games' new place in Santa Monica is amazing and would be great. Thanks, dragonwize!
Sounds like we are getting somewhere :D
Wow, wasn't expecting the involvement and offers of places as I'm seeing (and yes, I'm very excited :D)
@bvirtual, I would totally offer up CalArts were it not for the fact that the summer high school program has started here and aside from the students, only staff are allowed on campus (no exceptions). I'll talk with my boss and see if something more regular can be set up once the main campus year starts in September, however :)
I agree that the next weekend would likely not be the best time to be doing (anything?) I don't have the 16th available anyways since my wife will have to tough it out on her way to Santa Monica.
If we are planning a daytime / afternoon thing, I am free fridays thru sundays and for evenings, Wednesday thru Sunday (with Sundays after 11am) till end of summer (and if it is this Saturday, I have full access to a car and will drive whatever distance - with that said, I'm primarily in favor of Bennos and Dragonwize's locations due to distance ^_~).
I favor benno's due to metro
I favor benno's due to metro or riot / dragonwize due to distance (and coolness factor -- since I've never been there -- plus maybe free grub!).
I can do most weeknights next week (not Tue/Wed) or the 16th.

Don't forget about "Carmageddon" July 15/16
The 405 will be completely shut down in both directions between the 101 and 10 freeways beginning the night of Friday, July 15 and ending 5 a.m. the following Monday morning. Traffic will be backed up from Mexico to San Bernadino!

If it works for everyone, how
If it works for everyone, how about on the evening of the 14th (not fighting as much traffic?) or Friday the 15th morning / afternoon / evening (before the shutdown)? Otherwise, we look at something in a couple of weeks. What works for the folk that offered to host?
If the hosts feel uncomfortable, Mike, do you know how easy/uneasy it is to book space at the Santa Monica Library? The last time we were there, it seemed like a nice location as well.
14th works for me. I hope it

I'm not sure about the SM Library. I believe it was @bvirtual and @chrischarlton that made that happen. I'm not certain, but do know @bvirtual knows a lot about it. I wasn't at all involved with SM Library -- but did mostly hear good feedback.

Santa Monica Library - Riot I can make
Yes, I do know a lot about the library policies, and the time frame they can do things in.
Un-sponsored events you need to pay for the venue. And can get based upon availability. Thus, are available short term, in a few days. It's a highly booked facility. They have 3 large meeting rooms, with theater style seating.
Getting library sponsorship is not difficult, a form with 20 fields, and a minimum of 3 months waiting, as the committee that approves sponsorship must do it's research into the group, be sure it's something the library "can" sponsor (ie promoting the overthrow of the city government and the like will not get approved).
I filled in the form for us the other year. It never got submitted, as other venues were favored.
Looks like Riot is in. I'll be there. I can make it all day, and night.

13, 14 & 15 I am booked all day
Hi Guys,
On the 13, 14 and 15 I am booked all day with a photo shoot. May be we should do it this time at Riot's location. And then the next one we do here. Thanks Benno
I've got food and drink all
I've got food and drink all lined up and full power to use our facilities. Let me know if we need/want anything I will make it happen.
Based on the responses
Based on the responses here, let's make it the 14th :D If that works for everyone, see you then and comment if we need anything (and if you'd like us to bring anything, dragonwize).

I'll post it up by tomorrow
I'll post it up by tomorrow evening if dragonwize doesn't do so (I'm waiting for him to write it up :))
Now up
A stub for it is now up at http://groups.drupal.org/node/161179. I don't know if dragonwize has the ability to edit the node (I added him as an organizer) but if not, then send me the info and I'll update it as needed :)
The day (or night) of the sprint
The day (or night) of the sprint, I can volunteer to help get people up to speed with all the necessary tools, e.g. Git, Drush, Dreditor and the issue queues, etc.
For Git with Drupal, the code sprint we had last year at SDS, we set everyone who hadn't already gotten Git and Drupal up and running with Quickstart, an Ubuntu virtual machine that has a lot of common tools that are useful for Drupal development:
http://drupal.org/project/quickstart
So, if anyone out there is reading this, doesn't have a development environment ready for this sprint and wants to participate, please take a few minutes right now and download both Quickstart and VirtualBox, which Quickstart needs to run:
http://www.virtualbox.org
Just in case, I'll have both on a DVD that can be passed around.
