New Drupal Project - OpenSocial

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

This is just a quick note to let you all know I have created a new project to support the APIs provided by Google as part of the OpenSocial Project. Of course, this is all brand new, so we're not exactly sure how it's going to work with Drupal, but I'm definitely interested in getting you all onboard!

Given that this particular project is likely to be Hot Hot Hot over the coming months, and I've got a number of emails already, I'm hoping to add a few co-maintainers right from the start. If you're interested, send me a holler, and we'll sort it out.

Alternatively, the usual process applies - file feature requests and bug reports (along with implementing code if possible!) at http://drupal.org/project/issues/opensocial

Two avenues?

Vyoma's picture

Having the OpenSocial news going around, my first thought was to drop into this group and see what is brewing. Seems like something is going on. :P

OpenSocial is still alien to me and so is developing apps for Social Networks. But as I see it, there could possibly be two avenues for development on Drupal for OpenSocial:

  1. Develop apps in OpenSocial that would allow access to a Drupal Site
  2. How can social networks (community sites) created in Drupal be OpenSocial compatible? This one is more of an aspirational overtone.

As I said - it could be that I have no idea what is really happening - but I sure am excited.

very interested myself

The container SPI doesn't seem to have been released yet, but there may still be some things to look at in the meantime.

Project page moved?

Vyoma's picture

The link in the first post: http://drupal.org/project/opensocial seems to be broken. Has it been moved?

I have deleted the project

lyricnz's picture

I have deleted the project page off drupal.org for now. Why?

  • I have been trying to get some consensus on basic design issues for the last two weeks, but nobody seems interested in actually coordinating (things like, how this module should relate to / reuse other modules, whether it's okay to use Zend Gdata lib (with it's PHP version and install requirements), whether we should attempt to reuse other code that's already out there (some SoC 2006, and 2007 in particular), etc

  • lots of people saying "I'm interested", but nobody helping

  • Since I haven't committed code, it's unreasonable to "squat" on the project name

We can recreate it, once we actually have some code to put there. In the meantime, I'll keep on with my own development here.

OpenSocial module

Hello,

I'm doing a graduation project + investigation about the integration of (content from) social networking sites in drupal websites.

See: http://groups.drupal.org/node/10279

OpenSocial is interesting because more important sites are working with the api today (myspace, linkedin, in holland: hyves, ...).

Are you interested in co-operating with me (I will develop a new drupal contribution together with a company in Holland)?

Thanks,

Shindig

Glad to know that you are working on Drupal OpenSocial project...

Did any one try Shindig on Drupal ?

I'm new to Drupal, it will be great to learn if this will help to speed up the development.

Thanks,

Shindig integration

I've been working on integrating a site with buddylist/mysite with shindig, and all you really need is to add the rtf javascript files in drupal, and work on the database interface files under shindig/php/src/socialdata to work with the tables in drupal.

Not the best way to do things, but it should be really fast. I don't think it is a good idea to have both a gadget server and an application server on the same machine. Shindig required a LOT of resources to parse apps. However, I think we will be much better off by integrating with Shindig than dedicating a large portion of drupal developers to redeveloping the proverbial wheel.

Never heard of Caja

mav14's picture

Hello Mubiesam

I had never heard of Caja before but plan to study it further more.

I've seen the other student's post about a potential project, but am not sure if ce can do something together.

Did you see my post at http://groups.drupal.org/node/10279? Wouldn't that be nice?
