Need a new d.o spotlight image for Installing Drupal 6

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hey folks,

I have created the Installing Drupal 6 video in preparation for D6's release. Once we officially release D6 we will need to add a banner pointing to the video in the spotlight block. I am not of the digital art persuasion so I'm asking for help. Basically it just needs to be something along the lines "hey people, we have a video that shows you how to install Drupal 6. w00t!" but ya know, not so verbose. ;-)

I believe the only real requirement is to be the same size as the other images in rotation. Here are some examples of other banner images used:
http://drupal.org/files/issues/Drupal-Barca-banner.gif
http://drupal.org/files/issues/spotlight-associationmember.png

We can play around and look em over in here and then once we pick one I'll make an issue to have it added once D6 is released. Sound cool?

Here's a template

yoroy's picture

Can't commit myself to make one at the moment, but use these templates:
A file for The Gimp at the correct dimensions: http://drupal.org/node/211532
Photshop template: http://www.yoroy.com/elders/drupal/spotlight-template.tif.zip

(Spotlight imagas are 200px wide, 221px high)

I hope it's not yet too late (I've been busy studying Drupal module dev. lately), but here goes my D6 spotlight:

Only local images are allowed.

Just comment away for your adjustment request.

Oh thanks Marc! Sorry I have

Oh thanks Marc! Sorry I have taken so long to get back. My 2 suggestions are:

1) the white "Installing" is too hard to read against the yellow we need that to really stand out
2) I would just leave the number at 6 since we will want to use this for the whole 6 cycle, regardless of version and installation will not change in minor version numbers

Thanks again!

another version

marcrobinsone's picture

Hey, don't mention it. I know you've been busy with other good stuff. ;)

Kindly see if this will work:

Only local images are allowed.

Do tell if you need a bigger resolution for a slide-title or something like that.

Thanks too,

marc.robinsone

Much better!

Maybe some more contrast in the plumbing parts? Alreade fresh looking though. :)

Yeah, I like this direction!

I like it, but have two

catch's picture

I like it, but have two reservations:

  1. there's a g.d.o discussion about changing the drupal.org slogan to something other than community plumbing
  2. This probably only makes sense to me (my daughter is 50% Japanese) but the Drop in that context reminds me of Japanese potty training cartoons. It's a pretty obscure reference and I feel stupid bringing it up, but still.

potty training on TV???

marcrobinsone's picture

Konnichiwa catch,

I think that video should be censored for having "Parental Content" lol.

Here's another version for you:

Only local images are allowed.

I hope that doesn't remind you of toilet land anymore :)

marc.robinsone

All potty references erased,

catch's picture

All potty references erased, and this looks good. Only thing I'd say is that watch it now is slightly interfered with by the background.

I like this one better

Just because I created them doesn't mean I don't get the chance to have an unbiased pick. :p

I'd prefer this one 'coz I think it's simpler.

Cross-posted

I cross-posted this to marketing to get more eyes on it since I am pretty much the opposite of a marketer. :-)

cool work

hal2's picture

Yeah I like really like your work. I've got on idea, which is to do with the perspective of the tv and druplicon inside it. it looks like he hasn't turned 90 degrees to the left like the tv has. I dont see the distance.
His shape would be slightly in line with the perspective you are giving with the tv, and not that he would be looking to the left instead of how he looks to the right.

I'd really like to see an apache indian druplicon for an apache and drupal web server install too.

Did you know the newsletter team are looking for a picture too?
Check http://groups.drupal.org/node/8442

I appreciate the idea

marcrobinsone's picture

I appreciate the idea hal.

If someone seconds changing the perspective of the druplicon and tv, I'll modify it with no hesitation :D

Apache Indian? I thought the original was term was "patchy"...

marc.robinsone

Now your showing your years.

hal2's picture

Now your showing your years. The apache indian is a really cool singer and artiste. The apache indians are a race of indians, like the sioux.

Can I second the idea of having a go and seeing what its like? :-)

o__o

marcrobinsone's picture

it's a go. :) Feel free to drop any of ideas. There's no black-listing here :p I'd appreciate it a lot.

Upload source and 2 more?

add1sun's picture

Hey Marc, Drupal 6 is now out so I have requested that it be added to the front page rotation (http://drupal.org/node/221243). Please upload the source files for the TV graphic to that issue. Also, if you have time, if we can use the same basic design with a slight variation (like maybe bg color) for the New Features and Upgrading to Drupal 6 videos that would be awesome. If you don't have time, then the community can hop on it from the source files.

Thanks a million man!

sounds terrific

marcrobinsone's picture

Should I post the slight variation on the same node?

I would appreciate spending my time, creating variations for the "New Features" and "Upgrading to Drupal 6" videos. Drupal 6 will definitely rock my world.

Thanks for the awesome Drupal 6 installation video add1sun! Love that radio voice. High-five ;)

Sure
