The local folks in attendance at the Drupal 6 launch meeting probably came away with a good feeling about our group. Firstly, A lot of the agenda points have many similarities to what we discussed at our first meetup. Secondly, the release of Drupal 6 (if all goes according to plan) just happens to coincide with our next scheduled meeting next Tuesday hosted by Lullabot. That being the case, I feel like we can do a pretty good job helping provide a framework for promoting the release of Drupal 6 on a local level. Thought it would be best to start with a wiki and brainstorm ideas for our particular event. Please add ideas, revise and/or comment.
- Find a cool venue (this one would be nice)
- Have cookies, refreshments, and possibly a DrupalCake
- Capture the event with photos, video, and possibly a podcast(?)
- Blog about both the event and of course any news/publicity having to do with the release of Drupal 6
- check the Marketing group for the latest on what's going on
- Blog from LA Drupal and use the 'Planet Drupal' tag (for anything that should be read by 16000+ subscribers
- Follow up by promoting Drupal 6 at other events and meetups (SCALE and other events listed here)
- Seek out happy Drupal users on the local level - invite to events and/or ask for quotes
- Hit the social media sites like facebook, upcoming, flickr, etc
- Here's the front page announcement (Digg it!) - http://drupal.org/drupal-6.0
- There's an announcement on upcoming.org - http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/430694
- Maximize exposure via a grassroots media campaign
- Produce videocasts, podcasts, case studies, Drupal elevator pitches, and other things to educate and promote the benefits of Drupal 6
- make Drupal 6 a focus of our presentations and tutorials at our regular meetups
- upgrade our [[http://ladrupal.org/|LA Drupal]] site to Drupal 6; will provide a showcase as well as a real world learning project

Checking capacity
Lullabot is down with turning this into a release party. We are verifying the capacity of the venue right now. What other info do you need from us? I can't think of any issues we would run into other than running out of room for folks.

Now that Drupal 6 is actually out...
Now that Drupal 6 is actually out, we can follow up and add to the wiki page above. Let's add the places where the news can be found - also should recap and blog about the excellent D6 related events we had over the past week.
While unable to attend the SCALE booth, I can verify that our D6 pre-release party provided a great showcase for some of the amazing features of D6. Of course it helps when you have the folks from Lullabot hosting the event and giving some great lightening talks. Huge thanks for making that happen!

Before we get a cake
I think scheduling proper sessions at our LA Drupal meetings will provide the platform for local people to attend. That covers the seekers.
We'll be emailing (follow up) the emails from the Drupal booth at SCALE, to invite them to the next meetings.

Drupal marketing efforts
Isn't there a thread for "Drupal elevator pitches" on the marketing group? Let's keep aligned with that.

already in the handbook ...
Couldn't find a dedicated thread on the marketing group, but there are these pages

Suggestions could probably still be submitted to the issue queue
