I'll do some sort of demo of Apache SOLR + Drupal if people are interested.

+1 for this Solr demo

I can do a brief intro/demo of QueryPath and XSLT

mcaudy's picture

I can do a brief intro/demo of QueryPath and XSLT, for pulling large XML data files into Drupal, if people are interested.

QueryPath is a new PHP toolkit, with a corresponding querypath module on drupal.org. It was created by Matt Butcher, of Palantir. It is inspired by, and patterned after, jQuery. In particular, it uses OOP PHP (Object Oriented PHP), where a QueryPath object is created - which like the jQuery object - usually returns itself, so its methods are "chainable", like jQuery methods. Also like jQuery, it uses CSS3 selectors to select specific elements within HTML or XML data files. The difference is that QueryPath is a PHP toolkit, or library, which works on the server side, while jQuery is a JavaScript toolkit, which works on the client side.

XSLT (XML Stylesheet Language Transformations) is a very powerful programming language for transforming essentially any XML file into either another form of XML file, or into HTML, or text, or SVG, PDF, etc. I use it to both transform very large XML data files into smaller ones, and at the same time to display them in different layouts in HTML.

I am now exploring the XSLT capabilities of QueryPath, which appear to be much simpler than the DOM-based approaches available in the standard PHP implementations of XSLT.

I have to postpone this presentation

mcaudy's picture

Unfortunately, I have to postpone this presentation. I have to go Austin the week of Oct. 6 to help my mother with some urgent things.

I could present on this in November, if people are interested.

post edited. changed my mind.

Leadership Discussion?

winston's picture

I've had leadership discussion on the agenda for the last three meetups, but we never end up with enough people at the meetup interested in having a discussion about group leadership to proceed.

So I guess unless someone chimes in I'm not sure if there is anything for it other than to conclude that the community is satisfied with the current leadership.

If you are not satisfied, or just want to talk governance for the group please volunteer to lead that discussion.

For those who may have skipped the last couple of meetups, we've had some very nice Drupal presentations and discussions. Hope you can make this next meetup, and by all means go ahead and propose a topic you can present or a discussion idea! Just post it as a comment here.

There has been no major

orbgasm's picture

There has been no major discussion about group leadership at any of the meetups, social or otherwise recently, so I think it's safe to say the topic can be skipped. I am basing this on what I've seen, so I agree that if somebody wants to chime in and bring this up, I think the least we would get out of it is a productive discussion.

And yeah, there's been a series of really cool presentations lately!

I will be presenting a site I just finishing re-designing/theming - I want to show how much can be done by taking an existing theme and just prettying it up a little. The concept I want to touch on is also somewhat inspired by johnvsc's recent insistence that we need to focus on design more in the Drupal community, and not purely just the theming aspect.

I'll post the actual site name soon as it's actually live :)

I'd really like to learn more about managing site configuration in code to take advantage of version control, good workflow and so on...

Drupaling in NYC since 2009!

I would love someone to go

I would love someone to go over this as well ... I'm trying to get this working for the DART module and failing :(

Bump. Though I can see a split between exportables/features/civiCRM extensions :) vs. standard version control. I'm interested in delving further into all of the above.

I guess I can do this. I'll

I guess I can do this.

I'll explain how to turn an already created module into an exportable module. I'll also cover how you can let ctools create the UI for you and how you can leverage ctools, and features for exportables.

I got a couple of modules I've done this too. Sadly the patches haven't made it back to Drupal.org but they're in the issue queues :).

awesome!

I look forward to this, I just wrote something that could definitely use proper exporting.

All these topics, especially exportables and cTools sounds very interesting. Looking forward to it!

An overview of pulsefragrance.com sounds great!

Hi,

I'm new and am looking forward to the Meetup. I thoroughly enjoy case studies, especially when they include custom programming solutions and the web server.

Thanks!

Parking in NJ near PATH - any

Parking in NJ near PATH - any recommendations?

Cheapest parking by an NJ

Jerry Ryan's picture

Cheapest parking by an NJ PATH station is in Harrison, right across the street from the station, and fairly close to the exit off 280.

There's parking a block or two from the Hoboken station. While it's easier to get to than Harrison, it's considerably more expensive.

Hello,

I am helping to start a non-profit to encourage professional investors in emerging markets (Africa, Asia, Latin America, etc.) to become advocates for better governance in the countries in which they invest. (I use the term governance broadly, to encampass environmental standards, human rights, budgetary transparency, anti-corruption, etc.) We are doing this by getting outside experts on various governance issues to speak to investors and educate them about the importance of these issues, so that the investors can then raise those issues with the companies and governments in which they invest.

We are an early-stage, start-up non-profit driven by about 15 volunteers. We are now looking for a Drupal programmer to become an integral part of our tech and management team. Would it be possible to make a short pitch about the non-profit to see if anyone might be interested in volunteering with our cause?

Thanks,
Ashok

I'm sorry, but no

winston's picture

You are welcome to engage people individually. I also encourage you to post a job posting to our group using the "Create Job" option.

Our meetups are an interest group in Drupal. Presenters should be presenting about Drupal.

Got it...

...completely understand where you're coming from, Winston. Roughly what time do you guys expect to be at Dakota Roadhouse...will plan on swinging by. (Please do add me to the admission list for the meeting part of the meetup too....in case I can come for that, I will.) Thanks!

Presentation on Reverse Node Reference

wildfeed's picture

Seeing a couple of cancellations for tonight's agenda. Would like to do a demo showing how to create a block view using Reverse Node Reference and getting it to appear when displaying the referred node. Extremely powerful and pretty easy to accomplish when you understand the process.
