BAD CAMP 2010
Bay Area Drupal Camp
November 13th & 14th, 2010
UC Berkeley

The fourth annual Bay Area Drupal Camp will take place November 13th & 14th, 2010, on UC Berkeley Campus in Berkeley, California. Drupalistas, get your session proposals ready, we'll only have a couple weeks to get rolling!

Keynote This year, we are honored that webchick will be joining us as our keynote speaker. Angela Byron is the Drupal 7 co-maintainer, co-author of the O'Reilly book Using Drupal, Drupal Association Board Member, Lullabot, Google Summer of Code alumnus, and general Drupal community cat herder.

Share We need speakers for BADcamp, so start working on your sessions. The sooner you get your session in, the more votes you'll get, so propose your talk at badcamp.net!

What is BADCamp? For those of you new to Drupal or Drupal camps, BADCamp, inspired by the BarCamp events, is a medium sized gathering of like minded people to discuss and learn about Drupal, an open-source content management system that is powering more and more of the web every year. Come to share ideas, get involved in the community, and meet in person, the people you see so often online. BADCamp is a FREE event put on by the people, for the people and with the help of some friendly sponsors. Some of your favorite, dedicated, Drupal developers will be joining us this year, so don't miss out!

Volunteer If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up on our 2010 BADcamp Volunteer Wiki page

Sponsor If you are interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Matt Cheney.

When is BADCamp 2010? I won't

christefano's picture

When is BADCamp 2010? I won't know if I'll be able to come up for it (much less present) until the dates are announced.

Dates

jenlampton's picture

Dates have been confirmed, BADcamp will be November 13th & 14th with a possible sprint day on the 12th.

signups closed?

It looks like signups are closed. Did I miss it, or have they not opened yet?

Sign-ups will be open on Oct

Sign-ups will be open on Oct 22 according to this site: http://badcamp.net/

One-day signups?

charles belov's picture

I note "Due to venue restrictions, we are limited to 350 attendees this year."

Will one-day signups be possible? Presumably some people (including myself) can go only one day or the other; Saturday-only people could share an attendance slot with Sunday-only people, thus allowing more people to attend.

Hope this helps.

I hope so

Sborsody's picture

I hope so. I vaguely recall they had one-day signups at a previous BADCamp. I can't attend Saturday and was planning on coming Sunday only.

Looking ahead to next year

coderintherye's picture

For next year, perhaps we could consider having BADcamp over here in San Francisco proper. The reason I mention this is because I think limiting to 350 attendees is probably going to leave some people out in the cold? If looked into early enough, we may be able to acquire space at San Francisco State University. Just a thought, and looking forward to this year's BADCamp.

Last year

I don't think there were more than 350 people last year... ?? Jen would know.

Kristen

We had about 300ish people

Ok, I was just basing my comment on what happened in 2008, I'm not sure what the cutoff on amount of people was, but I know I was unable to go due to the cut off.

Capacity & Location

jenlampton's picture

We have negotiated room for up to 475 people this year at BADcamp, hopefully that will allow most of the attendees to join in all the Drupal fun!

The plan is to hold a SF Drupal camp in the spring in SF proper each year (modeling after the test camp we ran at the SFSU Downtown campus in 2009, and following in the footsteps of DrupalCon SF in 2010). Since 2007, BADcamp has been held in the fall, at UC Berkeley.

It was particularly important to us to do this year's camp in Berkeley, since San Francisco has already had a great Drupal event this year.

@nowarninglapel I'd love it if you could help us get an even larger venue next spring. SFSU would be a great place to hold a camp!

Excellent. Just to note, I

coderintherye's picture

Excellent. Just to note, I wasn't trying to take away from the great work being done by you guys over there at organizing, was just concerned due to my experience in 2008. Now that you have (greatly) increased capacity that shouldn't be a problem at all. I hope it fills up though :)

We have looked in to

sjcanon@gmail.com's picture

We have looked in to alternative options for venues but BAD camp has always been a east bay event and we wanted to keep to the tradition.

I think we should keep the

I think we should keep the traditions. Last year there was a Bay area Drupal camp in SF. I think it was put together with a lot of help from Acquia.

Thank Kieran Lal

yes, a huge thank you to Kieran Lal for all his efforts on SF Drupal camp 2009!

Is there a glitch?

charles belov's picture

I clicked on the signup tab above and the contents are blank; no signup form, nothing. Or is there some other place to sign up?

I think signups are turned

christefano's picture

I think signups are turned off because registration is going to be at http://badcamp.net and not on this page.

Still No Signups Visible

jcj52436999's picture

Friday 22 Oct has past, and that signups tab at the top of this page still pulls a blank page, and there do not seem to be any signups on badcamp.net?

Cheers and Regards,

Signups now open

Thank you so much for all waiting so patiently! You can now register for the camp by creating an account on http://2010.badcamp.net.

bad email headers

murias's picture

Wanted to let someone know,

my email server is rejecting the email from the registration at bad camp. I am getting bad email headers, cause, not fully qualified domain name.

I am sure that this is not just happening with my mail servers. This is standard security practice to minimize spam. have all mail from a FQDN.

reject: RCPT from 184-106-137-7.static.cloud-ips.com[184.106.137.7]: 504 5.5.2 : Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname; from=<www-data@badcamp>

Please update DNS so we can all use and have our accounts.

this would also explain some of the people are having issues.

Hope this helps..
Cheers

You Do Good Work! :-))

jcj52436999's picture

I was just able to create a BadCamp account! :-))

The BadCamp site email was not the return address that reached me however. The BadCamp return address seems to lack the dot net extension, perhaps a typo in the setup?

Cheers and Regards,

Joe Jackson

Any drupal video gurus out there? I need help w/http://berkeleyfreedigital.net. Gracias! (click my name to email me.)

VLS Building or Barrows for Registration Please?

jcj52436999's picture

The session schedule shows mostly rooms in Barrows for sessions, and speaker(s) in VLS Building, but for those of us yet unfamiliar with the Berkeley campus, where is the Registration to take place please?
:-))

Cheers and Regards,

BADCamp Follow-up

dboeger's picture

I wanted to say thanks to Jen and her team. They did a fantastic job with BADCamp 2010! It was a great event, with great participation. If anyone has a chance to do a training with Jen and ChapterThree, go for it.

As a follow up to my presentation One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Dru-fish, I'll be posting an updated version of the presentation in the next couple of days. I'd like to follow-up on the conversation that we had during the Q&A. Would the attendee with the beard who sat in the back row please drop me a quick e-mail. I wanted to talk to you after the session, but you slipped out while Michelle Z. and I were talking. You can reach me through my Drupal.org profile (dboeger). Thanks.

Dustin Boeger

Super Kudos

kristen pol's picture

Yep, a big thanks to Jen and the Chapter Three team and other folks that helped out.

It was super fun!

Kristen

Great job everyone!

We really enjoy seeing everyone, along with some great sessions! Thanks!

Suggestion(s) for next BADcamp

rekz's picture

Drupaloids & naughty campers,

Thanks so much for the event! I was happy that this year I could follow along in all the presentations. As a newb, I'm still ramping up. After first BADCamp I was able to get my multisite install working (took a few attempts) & at this camp am fine-tuning my sites... a lot.

I have a few sugg's for next BADcamp -- is there a thread?

Enjoying netting all the talent

joshuabud's picture

I really had a great time and am glad I chose to fly out for the weekend. I had a great time helping Friday as a volunteer trainer for the Drupal in a day class it rocked, thanks Jen for the opportunity and hopefully more in the future. Also to all the brains behind the scenes of Drupal I think it's wonderful how accessible you make yourselves at events of this nature much thanks.

To all of the wonderful people I spoke to and met you all rock and I'll be returning to BADCamp for many years to come for sure, BAY AREA ROCKS!

Great event, even more amazing people

techninja's picture

My first BADCamp, and my daughter Sylvia's first too! Met some of the best minds in the Drupal community, and was reinforced that the real value in Drupal really lies with the community. A great job by the sponsors in feeding the hungry masses, and wonderful job all around for the prep and execution, and to Jen for keeping cool as a cucumber :)

Here's hoping Sylvia will be inspired by you all, and maybe help continue this great Drupal community for the next generation. Thanks guys (and gals),

YOU ROCK!!!

A good plan
