Drupal Case Study: X PRIZE Foundation

The X PRIZE Foundation is the brainchild of Dr. Peter H. Diamandis who strongly believes that focused and talented teams in pursuit of a prize and acclaim can change the world. The X PRIZE Foundation creates and manages prizes that drive innovators to solve some of the greatest challenges facing the world today. In May 2004, the X PRIZE was officially re-named the Ansari X PRIZE to reflect the generous multi-million dollar donation from the Ansari family. Later that same year, on October 4, 2004, the $10 million Ansari X PRIZE was awarded to Mojave Aerospace Ventures for the flight of SpaceShipOne.

With the success of the Ansari X PRIZE, the X PRIZE is now viewed as the leading model to leverage the elements of public interest, entrepreneurial spirit and cross-disciplinary innovation to bring about breakthroughs in science, space, and technology that benefit us all.

Hi all,

I have a friend in Long Beach that is in the middle of development of a fairly large real estate website. He is in need of theming help over the next four weeks starting immediately. There is enough work to keep at least one person busy full time for those four weeks. Let me know if you are interested in helping and I will get you in touch. I am trying to help him out because he buried in the project right now. Local people that can drive to Long Beach would be preferable.

Thanks.

DrupalCon Los Angeles update - 2008 or 2009

Cary Gordon's picture
public
Cary Gordon - Tue, 2007-10-02 13:30

I floated the idea of doing a DrupalCon in Los Angeles in Drupal Groups, with the thought that we could put in a proposal for Spring, 2009. Since then, Boris Mann informed me that the Drupal Association is actively seeking proposals for Spring 2008. This would make for an extremely tight schedule, with a lot of work to be done in the next 150 days.

Is there anyone who feels that this is something that we should pursue, and would like to step up in a (collaborative) leadership roll? If so, please speak up here, and feel free to contact me off list, if you wish.

We are developing a cutting-edge web based application for a leading airline. It will be powered by a Drupal back-end. We are in need a freelance developer to complete this project. If you are surfing this forum, then you are most likely a good candidate. You will be configuring the Drupal CMS to work with pictures, and lots of video content. You must be familiar with the Drupal API so that you can pull content from the system and provide AMF services to a Flex front-end. You will be coordinating your development efforts with our web producer and our two front-end guys. You must be in L.A.

I recently attended DrupalCon Barcelona, where I floated the idea to the Drupal Association Board of having a DrupalCon in the Los Angeles area in the Spring of 2009. To make this happen, we would need at least four people who would be willing to commit a significant amount of time and energy between now and the event.

If you are interested in working on this, please speak up. If there is sufficient interest, I will put together an organizing meeting where we can start planning a proposal.

I have already made exploratory contact with potential sponsors.

We recently secured a large contract with a nationally known cable tv channel and we are looking for talented developers. Our team of twenty has this under control, but we have several other projects in the works and need to expand our team. If the site launched today it would be the largest Drupal site on record. (Traffic wise 50m pv a month) As far as we can tell!

Alternate time and location in Los Angeles?

Cary Gordon - Thu, 2007-04-05 20:54

Since I will never be able to make a 4PM Sunday meeting, I wondered if anyone was interested in alternatives. I could meet any weeknight evening, although Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are best. I am on the West Side, but I don't mind a little travel.

If there is sufficient interest, I can try to find a location.

Thanks,
