Drupal Ladder

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

About

Our goal is to get 1% of active users on drupal.org to contribute to Drupal core by 2014 by organizing "learn sprints" and "issue sprints" at Drupal User Group meetups, camps and conferences.

drupalladder.org is a central place for people to find and contribute lessons and materials. drupalladder.org is built on the Drupal Ladder distro, which people can download and use on their personal computers to work through the Drupal Ladder lessons.

The Drupal Ladder distro and drupalladder.org are products of the Boston Initiative, an experiment aiming to figure out how to make it easier for people to learn about and contribute to Drupal.

Note that we do not accept job postings or non-Drupal Ladder events in this group. Any posts that go off-topic from the goals of this group will be removed.

Next steps for keeping things going

We've had two learn sprints in our meetup (Kansas City), both run by me. I got all whipped up and excited after Drupalcon Denver. But a) contributing is new territory for me, and b) the other folks in our group are not as enthusiastic. So I'm trying to figure out how to keep things going.

Please help review and co-maintain lessons on drupalladder.org

Hopefully now that we have the ability to keep track of "lesson status" (draft, ready for review, needs review, final / up to date) as of the 1.0-alpha14 update, drupalladder.org will become a lot more usable for many more people. But we have some clean up work to do first.

drupalladder.org upgraded to 1.0-alpha14

  • Lesson "maintainership"
  • Indicate lesson status (draft, ready for review, needs review, final / up to date)
  • Enable commenters to peer review lessons and change lesson status
  • Different colors indicate different lesson draft status
  • Improved UX around lesson flags (completed, bookmarked, recommended)

Wat?

The Drupal Ladder initiative aims to raise the percentage of Drupal.org users contributing to core by an order of magnitude, from 0.1% to 1%, by the US DrupalCon in 2014. Two types of events are being hosted to reach this goal:

Drupal Ladder sprint: Maybe Thur, Aug 16?

Hey everybody!

We had another Drupal Ladder sprint scheduled with Steve Strong at APCO for two weeks from tonight: Thursday, August 16. Unfortunately, I'm leaving town that afternoon, so I won't be around to facilitate it. Is anyone else interested in stepping up and running things? Trust me, it's not that hard: you mostly just need to be willing to answer a lot of questions (made-up answers seem to be OK, too).

Drop me a note (brock@brockboland.com) if you'd like to take the reigns and I'll put you in touch with Steve to coordinate.

Southern Colorado (SCUG) Drupal Ladder meetups

I'd like to start regular monthly meetups for anyone interested in contributing to the Drupal project. These meetups would be based on the content from http://drupalladder.org and separate from the current presentation style meetups at the beginning of each month. I'd like to schedule an introductory learn sprint (http://drupalladder.org/#learn-sprint) later this month. Location will likely be the Old Colorado City library (http://ppld.org/old-colorado-city-library).

I'm considering the following dates/times:
Tuesday, Aug 21st, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
or
Wednesday, Aug 22nd, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
