I hope everyone is as excited about roaming around all the beautiful sites of San Francisco as I am. There is a lot to see and many places to visit. I will have materials available for you at the conference site. Together we can plan where we want to adventure. Some of the interesting points of interest include: Golden Gate park, Golden Gate Bridge, Union Square, Chinatown, the Ferry Building, the Art Museum, Alcatraz, Coit Tower, the Wharf, and Ghirardelli Square. We can go walking, hiking, on a cable care, on a ferry, on a bicycle, on a bus, on the bart. We can also hire a limo or a bus to take us to nearby Napa Valley where we can to wine tasting. There are lots of restaurants for us to enjoy and plenty of shops catering to your every whim and fancy. We're sure to have a good time.

Please let me know if you have special interests or needs. I will make every effort to get you what you want and point you in the right direction.

I will be staying at the Westin San Francisco Market Street Hotel. As the conference draws nearer I will choose a point where we can meet and get this party started.

Looking forward to seeing old familiar faces and meeting new friends.

wine tasting, Alcatraz, Giants baseball

gohogs's picture

I think we would get some conference attendees to join us on a wine tasting trip to Napa Valley if we go on April 22 or 23. Let me know if there is something I can research on that.
I will also volunteer to research the ferry to Alcatraz and see how far in advance they recommend we get tickets.
If anyone wants to go to the Giants baseball game on Friday, April 23, please let me know asap and we'll get tickets in the same section.

Wine tasting, etc.

Sounds great - research away. I'll get back to you with info on wine tasting. By the way, where are you staying in SF.

Ferry to Alcatraz sounds great.

My brother lives in San Fran

TammyFiala's picture

Well, yes he does, and he can suggest some things. So let me know if you need some suggestions.

Also when I was there last there was a nice GreyLine Tour that went down to Montery Bay and Carmel California. I don't know the Price, (This was ten years ago) but it was an all day trip, and you rode a bus that drove down Highway 1 which is Beautiful and you saw the Aquiarium and a Famous Cannery that has been turned into shops. Also you went through Pebble Beach, saw the famous Lone Pine tree that sits on a rock that sits out off of a cliff by the ocean that has inspired lots of Art and design Pictures.

It's a thought but not sure how many want to do this, and there maybe enough things to do in the city. but wanted to let people know about it.

Wine Country

judykann's picture

I'm going to arrange a tour of Napa Valley for wine tasting on Thursday April 22. It will be an 8 hour all day fun time. We will have a limo pick us up at the Moscone Convention Center in SF. Please get the word out. I need to know how many people want to taste wines and see the beautiful wine country. Cost will range from $125 and up. Please let me know if you are interested and if any friends are interested.

Thanks,
Judy

Alcatraz

judykann's picture

Alcatraz. Many people have expressed interest in going to Alcatraz. This also requires advanced ticket purchase. Price for the ferry is roughly $40.00. You can expect this to be a full morning or full afternoon experience. Morning is of course less crowded. Again spread the word and let's find out how many people are interested in this adventure.

Thanks,
Judy

Some outdoor nature ideas and my $.02 on Alcatraz

Modstgodds's picture

Hello everyone,

I am looking forward to catching up with you all. My ideas include walking in the Precidio, Japanese Garden in Golden Gate park, Telegraph Hill in search of wild parrots and things like that. I want to check out the ethnic neighborhoods as well.

Thanks for all the organizing you all do. We are staying in a place near the Moscone Center.

I have been to Alcatraz and it is very interesting. The grounds include some nice gardens. The guided tour (with headset) is worth it. It does feel institutional but it is an inherent part of its nature. I studied criminology and worked at the MA Dept of Corrections so I had an academic interest as well so your mileage may vary. There is information on the Native American occupation in the 1970's which is also interesting. I am not inclined to go there again so as to have that money and time for new adventures but whole heartedly recommend the trip. The view from the ferry is very beautiful as well.

Hope to spend some time with you all.

Best wishes
Elsa

It would be really nice to see all this places, Golden Gate park, Telegraph Hill and the legendary China Town in particular. Django and I are staying in Kensington Park Hotel next to Union Square Park.

I'm really looking forward to see everybody too.

All the best

Salutations and Sniffles

Hi all,

All of these ideas sound so great. Unfortunately, due to conflicts with school, singing, and my sick kitty, I am not going to be able to attend the conference this time around. I'll miss all of you, and I'll hopefully catch up with you in the fall...

New activities to be posted to SF2010 site

ideaseed's picture

Hi All,

I just wanted to introduce myself as a long-time SF local and current resident of the Bay Area (Oakland). I have been working with the conference team to research and ID activities especially for kids and S.O.s of those attending DrupalConSF as well as some things for all of us to do together in the evenings, etc.

I am still adding activities, but many will be making their way to the conference website in the next day or two.

Once you see they types of things that are posted there, feel free to send me suggestions. I have a network of folks to ask to get the best prices, places and such for things in the area.

Looking forward to hosting all of you who are coming from out of town, and getting to show off our city to you.

Cheers,
Jenn

Hi Jenn,
I'm looking forward to meeting you. Let's coordinate our efforts. I have maps of the city and places that I think people will want to explore. So good to have you working on this as well.

Hello everyone,

looking forward to meeting you and exploring this great city. Count me in for China Town, Telegraph Hill, the Presidio--events Sun-Weds. We are staying near the Moscone Center and can't do Thurs or Fri events.

Any attractions for Kids

nancymoussa's picture

I wonder if you know places and attractions for kids.
Thanks

for the kids...

If you have the time check out the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Newly built just a couple of years ago, it's a marvel, and kids love it! Less crowded on weekdays.

Also fun is the Bay Area Discovery Museum, just over the golden gate bridge:

Right next to the Moscone Center (DrupalCon) is Zeum,

and Yerba Buena Gardens,

Have fun!
