Start:
2010-11-02 06:30 - 20:30 America/New_York
Event type:
User group meeting

We will be hosted by the Sustainability@MIT – MIT Drupal Group in Cambridge in Building E51 - Tang Center in E51-325. Thanks again to Ed Carlevale and MIT for hosting us.

Please note the new room change, we are now on the 3rd floor in a larger space, E51-325

Parking and Transportation:
After 3pm, there is an unattended MIT lot folks can use. It is Hayward Lot http://whereis.mit.edu/?go=P5

Lightning Talks

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to present for 10 minutes on a topic of their choosing. You may show off your Drupal site, ask some questions of the audience, give a module demonstration, share some marketing ideas for Drupal, and so on. Just keep it brief. No expertise or planning required - just do it.

Dinner

After the meetup, some of us will continue the conversation over dinner at MIT's Muddy Charles Pub. We will likely pre-order some pizza so it meets us there. We'll take a count about half way through the meeting.

Please plan on bringing $10 to participate in pre-ordering food and some drinks.

Anyone else from the NH Drupal Group interested in truckin' down to Cambridge to join in the Boston Drupal Meetup! I'll be going from the seacoast area, so if anyone is interested in carpooling please send me a message via Drupal.org and let me know.

Module update chat

Hi,

Would it be possible for someone to do a 10 minuter at the meet-up tomorrow on back-end maintenance like best practices for back-ups and module upgrades? This part of drupal has been a boogey cat for me from the get-go.

Thanks,

As we know, despite the overall job situation nowadays, for a Drupal developer/designer, things look pretty good. There are way more Drupal jobs and contracts than the local talent can fill. Way more.

While there are a tremendous amount of resources for those wanting to learn Drupal, it's important to connect and share experiences with other drupalfolk.

Call it a hack night or whatever, Boston Drupal Dojo is a weekly opportunity to get together with other folks in the local Drupal community. No agenda. No speakers. Bring your problems, bring your solutions, bring your laptop.

The word Dojo (道場) captures what we're trying to create -- a place to practice and master one's art. Think of it as a place to become a Drupal blackbelt, a Drupal Ninja.

Details:

-We will focus on themeing/building/development on D7 projects only. (eek?)

-We secured a space in Boston at WorkBar: http://workbarboston.com/

-We are going to meet weekly, first Tues of Month with exception to our MIT meetup where the Dojo Group can be with rest of community.

-There's limited space and we want to have roughly the same people show up consistently.

-There is a cost involved with renting this space. I'm thinking our group will be around 10 people and if we each chip in $5 dollars each time, it should cover our costs.

-The yummy news is WorkBar is close to Chinatown so we can explore the culinary delights it offers after or during our dojo if we want.

-This is all experimental to see if the space, curriculum, and commitment will work out for everyone.

We owe lots of thanks to our pioneers in sister cities such as Austin, San Fransico, and LA. And to WorkBar for giving us a home.

I look forward to feedback at tonight's meetup.

Dojo night

Kate Hopkins's picture

Hey Susan,

I would LOVE to get involved in this, but Tuesdays are difficult for me this year. If there's any flexibility in the schedule, or if others are interested in doing it on another night, Thursday is my free night of the week.

Obviously, I don't want people to rearrange things just for me, if this takes off, I can hop in next year - but if a schedule change does come up - please count me in :)

Conflict?

I will try to be relatively consistent.
