Drupal projects cost more than Wordpress or Joomla projects so the latter are more popular. Not too surprising since Drupal is more flexible and configurable and has more functionality that can be integrated in.

Agreed! Although I'd like to point out that WordPress and Joomla projects can get very expensive when you are asked to do something that is better done with Drupal.
To me this highlights the point of how important it is to have the scope of your project well thought out in advance so that you know you are using the right tool for the job.
