2 Questions - Broken Pipe and RDS

I am trying to install Mercury 1.1 on a 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 EBS-backed micro instance (from Canonical, as listed on the Alestic site). The last message after I entered the command:

sudo bcfg2 -vqed -p 'mercury-aws-ebs'

was:

< update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/jexec to provide /usr/bin/jexec (jexec) in auto mode.
Write failed: Broken pipe

Google was no help. I'm wondering if it can be installed on a micro instance? (Note: there was a discussion of the micro instance on 9-11-10 but that seemed to be only about the economics not how well Mercury would run on a micro instance.)

And one more question:
What are your thoughts regarding Amazon RDS for mysql? Is it possible? Is it advisable/not advisable? Why?

PS Thanks for all your work on Pantheon/Mercury!

Broken Pipe

To answer my own question:

It seems that "broken pipe" is caused by a ssh timeout. This can be corrected by setting ServerAliveInterval and ServerAliveCountMax in /etc/ssh/ssh_config.

But I found that I was unable to reconnect, even after rebooting my local PC. So I rebooted the instance and after doing so I found a stack trace in the log file (see below). This leads me to doubt whether a micro instance can be used. I think I'll move on to a small instance instead.
