Hi all,
I've had people coming and asking about wordpress and other alternatives, before committing to Drupal.
Surly there are some other technologies that can do the work, but as we all know drupal can be utilized in a large array of scenarios.
I'm posting this as a collaborative idea, that can enhance the local body of knowledge in a few ways:
The idea is to have on first stage a link exchange/repository to kootenay related drupal sites and developers.
This would give potential customers an idea about how popular drupal is around the koots, and that there is a cadre of people working with this excelllent technology.
what do you think?

Great idea
That's a great idea Nevos. Personally, I would love to know who's out there using Drupal, available for hire, hiring, wanting to share solutions, etc. Are you thinking a separate repository? My thinking is the existing sites could work. http://inthekoots.com/ maybe?
Indeed
I'd love to know about sites in the Kootenays that are running/based on Drupal. So far (until I met Solona) all the programmers I've met work in WordPress.
How ironic http://drupal.inthekoots.com/ would be, considering it's WordPress. :) But if you want to set it up, I'm your man! The Kootenay Network is already well integrated (with Facebook, etc.), and it's basically free hosting with no strings attached (as yet). So it's a sweet deal.
onthekoots
Hi Paul,
I think it will be quite ironic, but you guys seem to be for it... so lets go with it.
can we set a subdomain as you sugessted? if so, can the subdomain be drupal based??
Nevos
What if we made it more
What if we made it more broad? groups.drupal.org/kootenays covers Drupal, but like you say Paul, there are a lot of developers using WordPress. So what about http://web.inthekoots.com ?
Ooh, I like it
web.inthekoots.com is a great idea, Solona. A central place for the web geeks if the region to congregate! We can link this Drupal group to it (and any other Kootenay-centric web-dev resources that people know of).
Sound like a plan?
Sounds great to me. Does
Sounds great to me. Does anyone know who runs inthekoots to ask?
I do.
Well sort of. :) I've recently become lead developer, so I like to think that I do. But really it's Rik. And he'd be totally down with it. So I'll go ahead.
webdev.inthekoots.com
I've just created http://webdev.inthekoots.com/ (web.inthekoots.com had too few characters - minimum is 4). Solona, I think I found your inthekoots.com account and gave you authoring privileges. Nevos, leave a comment on my welcome post and I can give you those privileges as well.
Ha! Just realized that.
Ha! Just realized that. Thanks for getting that going Paul!
Well I've just found you
Well I've just found you folks now, but I've been developing in the Kootenays for some time, and have been focussing primarily on Drupal. I could add at least a dozen sites to the list of local businesses running Drupal-powered sites. It would indeed be nice to compile a list of local companies already running Drupal sites, as any potential client will likely know someone listed, and be able to get first-hand feedback on their experience.
The reason I've finally stumbled into here is that I'm needing to bring in some Drupal-geared brains. Is there anyone with some space in their work schedule to delve into a new project that provides ongoing work? It's a positive karmically-charged business that has required ongoing development & support for the past 5 years and will continue to provide opportunities.
Please send me a message if you're interested.
