Node_media, an effor to extend and provide support for Node_images

Why do it need fund?

A bit of history

I initially developed Node Media(NM) as a patch for Node Images(NI) for a custom project. This gained recent attention because the moving to D6. So stefano73(author of NI) pointed NM as successor of NI.

People needs this lightweight alternative

NM can replace complex setups like gallery+views+ajax "firesworks"+lots of time in configuration and setup. Also, as successor of NI, and almost the same in code structure and UI. But there is an opportunity opened to integrate cool stuff with aid of plug-ins: l10n, i18n, ajax, flash, fivestars.

People needs continued support

As NI is getting retired, NM could be prepared to provide a path for migration from NI. There are many low power cpu hosting accounts using Drupal, maintained by limited non-technical volunteers and providing portals/sites/blogs for churches, schools, hospitals. Want to redirect them to "easier" already done and free solutions? or are we going to provide OpenSource based solutions?

Perhaps you don't have all the budget to sponsor this project, but you have that grain of salt which does a difference.
