Upstate DrupalCamp?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi, all. I'm in the beginning stages of planning a WNY DrupalCamp in Buffalo for early September 2011. At this point, we're thinking a 2-day event, probably Fri-Sat, featuring several fixed presentation slots and barcamp-style/BOF-type sessions the rest of the time. Through sponsorship and volunteerism, we're looking to keep attendee costs low. Our target attendee count is 150.

Any interest from points east of Rochester/Syracuse?

upstate drupal camp

I think that an upstate drupal camp would be amazing. I had the pleasure of attending the western ma camp on the 22nd and had a blast, and learned a lot. One of my favorite presenters was Jake Strawn and his Omega theme and delta module.

starting to assemble a board

Since these things take a while to initiate and gather enough resources to pull off, I started putting a board together last week. We have some services already being donated or offered pro bono and a proposal from a professional event planner to do all of the minutia that typically fall through the cracks. That said, it's only about 10% of what we need to get together.

So far, interest and discovery have indicated Buffalo might be the best location though Rochester is still a contender based on how active the WNY user group members are in both cities. I don't know the Albany group that well -- is the prevailing attitude "build it and they will come" or do people like to be involved in the building/planning/execution?

I am located in Rochester and recently got into Drupal..I have done some online paid classes and now I am onto building couples sites. I have another person who would be interested to attend too. I know there are Drupal users in Rochester. What kind of help would you need? I work for Xerox as an engineer/ researcher but I am also involved with local non-profits (at board and committee level), where I have led, planned and helped with social, networking and educational events. I might (and glad to) be help you with the planning details, marketing the event, etc. Let me know the specifics.

My husband I both work in Drupal and would be very interested! Buffalo sounds good to us. So does having it on a weekend. Hope to hear more soon. Thanks!

More East!

Just found this thread. Just went to the NYC DrupalCamp. A WNY DrupalCamp would be great. I am in Ithaca so I would hope a little more to the east too. I think it would get a better chance of drawing in more people. Maybe Rochester?

I would also be interested in helping out in online organising whether is through gdo or making a separate website.

I was hoping and scheduled to go to DrupalCamp in NYC, but I was sick. I would love to attend one in NY State, but I'm in Warwick/Orange County.

A location that is a bit more central than Buffalo would be less travel time for folks more South or East.
