Did you follow up with anyone
Did you follow up with anyone about this? I don't see anything listed on the BACnet.org site, but maybe it's because it's still in-process. I can help if you'd like.
Please do!
Thanks for the offer to followup Joel.
I did email Dries about it and he replied back "I'm not familiar with BACnet but it sounds like an interesting opportunity for Drupal. :) "
I also discussed it from various folks inside the BACnet community, but they had never heard of Drupal.
It would be great if you could do this for us. Once you get it, I think all we need to do is to post it back here so we in the Drupal Community know where to find it quickly.
Then we can begin the discussions about how to build it into the Drupal BACnet module.
Just thinking - BACnet User ID
Drupal can be thought of as a kind of middleware product. What this means is that a company could actually create its own Drupal Recipe, which would include the BACnet module(s) of course, and then apply for its own BACnet vendor ID, so they could then sell their own BACnet Energy Dashboard type product.
Why? Say there are data hubs setup to channel different types of building data. A multi-campus university has one such hub for each building, and one hub to totalize each campus and then one for the whole organization. All hubs could actually be located on the save web server, and really just exist as separate web sites on a web server. Hmmm...
In essence then, any owner/user of a BACnet system, say a school district or a university campus, could use Drupal to bake its own Energy Dashboard type product. If each one applied for a BACnet vendor ID, since there are millions of drupal sites out there (and a lot of buildings) couldn't the number of BACnet vendor IDs conceivably skyrocket?
What about a super green energy efficient building you own and want to brag about it to the world? And someone else has one they want to prove is even better. You'd almost need some kind of building certification system (like Energy Star) that would assign an ID to a building and owner. This way we could compare which is the most energy efficient building, owner with best energy management program, etc.
Such BACnet Energy Dashboards could allow Universities to compete to see who is the most energy efficient.
School districts likewise could use it as a tool to drive down utility expenses by teaching Building Social Networking principles.
How might these kinds of scenarios be efficiently managed?

The BACnet vendor ID for Drupal is 751.
