Presentations on tap include:

  1. Highly Themed Sites and WYSIWYG editors - Jon Daggar
How to balance concerns between: a high degree of design customization, Drupal standardization, and still making it editable for the user.  Particular focus on making sure the site doesn't look bad the first time the client edits it.

  2. Drupalcon Chicago! - Various
    Booyah!

  3. DrupalCamp WNY? Yes, DrupalCamp WNY. - Various
    Oh, yeah. It's happening.

(We can swap out that last one if somebody else would like to present in that slot -- it's really just a PSA and some calls for feedback and involvement!)

Wiki Event Calendar & Feature Collaboration

TimelessDomain's picture

So the wiki page is now the official event calendar & event schedule outline for all WNYDUG events? and if nothing is posted within there -> nothing is proposed -> so nothing will go on? Just making sure i understand this fully... I would have volunteered to put my name up there for this month, but i just thought it was for recommendations & not the final word.

Is anyone interested in meeting to collaborate on building actual features & distributions? further explanation can be found on our WNYDUG wiki page - http://groups.drupal.org/node/121429

It is nice sharing ideas at meetings, but we can do so much more if we put our minds together. I am willing to dedicate my free-time to building collaborative Features http://drupal.org/project/features and Distributions / Installation Profiles http://drupal.org/project/installation%2Bprofiles . Does anyone have any interest in working together on this? A small group of people would suffice, but a larger group would be much more powerful.

I like the idea of a WNY DrupalCamp. We could do a brainstorming session @ the beginning and end of the presentation to come up with ideas for it. Maybe even a few different people could do short presentations about what they personally hope/ dream a local drupal group could become. The camp would obviously just be the same as our monthly meetings but 5-10x bigger & longer???

Freedom Isn't Free

that's the idea

Yeh, I just had to call it. I mean, nobody volunteered on the wiki or elsewhere, so that's kind of that. I put out the call for volunteers a while ago, even sending a broadcast email to the entire group when the wiki page went up. Still, lot of ideas like you said -- but nobody putting their names on months. I'm glad to hear you'll be doing so!!!!!!

I did a little preso on Features (in d7) and less so on Features Server (on d6) a couple of months ago, but we haven't heard anything on Installation Profiles. You want to kick off interest by giving that presentation in March?? I have a features server running at my firm, but something for WNYDUG peeps to collectively pull from would be pretty great!!

re: DrupalCamp WNY, this came up in at least one meeting recently and again at the D7 launch party. Everybody's pretty into the idea, which totally excites me. I've actually been trying to do a bunch of little behind-the-scenes things to get some momentum behind it and spent some time thinking through formats, comparing with what other cities/regions have done. The canvas is wide open at this point, but here are several other things like getting the http://drupal.org/project/drupalcamp installation profile up & running, finding a venue (which we have leads on), finding $$ and in-kind sponsors (again we have leads, but we could really use a lot more!!!), getting the volunteer roles figured out, getting a pretty good wireless network in place wherever we hold it, etc. My personal take is that it should be a 2-day, Fri-Sat event with fixed presentation slots as well as barcamp-style breakouts, just like every other drupalcamp has. Open for discussion!!

Any other member of the WNY contingent here in Chicago?

yep

I'm here (in the lobby of Sheraton for the wifi before it saturates) and I had dinner with Steve Rosenthal last night. I think there are a few others laying about, but haven't had enough downtime to find people.

Apologies.

My driver's side windshield wiper popped off my car last night. I've been calling around, but it seems I won't be able to find a replacement before tomorrow. Driving to Buffalo across rainy NY does not seem like a good idea, and probably begging for a ticket. I won't be able to make it tomorrow.

That means that my presentation slot is open, unfortunately.

need a ride?

TimelessDomain's picture

hey daggar - i am driving from Rochester to the meeting tomorrow - do you need a ride? we would get there around when the pre-meeting starts.

Freedom Isn't Free

Thanks for the offer, TD.

Thanks for the offer, TimelessDomain. Had I checked earlier, I would have taken you up on it. Problem is, figuring I couldn't make it, I allowed my schedule to fill up with other matters.

Next time I'll be a bit more patient. Thank you again.

march meeting

I'm sorry to not be able to attend the meeting tonight. I already have a long standing organization commitment for the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Otherwise I would really like to attend some of these meetings. Perhaps another time.

New to group - like idea of DrupalCamp.

I have been working (on and off) with Drupal since Drupal 4, and am looking forward to attending local meetings. Unfortunately this Tuesday doesn't work for me either in person or virtually. I'd be glad to volunteer for something administrative or whatever, but I'm not sure my Drupal chops are strong enough for presentation. :-( Being public sector, I can't get any employer funding or sponsorship, so I'm no help there, either. Thanks.

WebEx meeting listing?

tsvenson's picture

I was kindly invited to your meeting by jpw1116 and since I live in Spain the WebEx is the only option for me. I just looked at the URL in the OP, but there is no meeting listed there yet. Where can I find that information or has it not been published yet?

I have also used the signup feature, here in the group, for the meeting and received a few updates about it, but no info there either.
