UPDATE 2 presentations confirmed. See more below.

Every body seems to know about this, but I almost forgot to announce it.

This month we'll have two short presentations and then we'll focus time on determining what people want to learn over the rest of the year and plan out some presentations like we did last year. So, if you want to make sure your topic gets covered, now is the best time to come!

As usual,
When: Thursday, Feb 17th
Time: 6:30pm - 9:30pm (Show up around 6:30pm for firm 7pm start!!)
Venue: ABC Centre 700 Harris Street, Ultimo ( Map | Directions )

Venue Details

The ABC Centre has some security issues, so it is important that people arrive early and sign in at the security desk so that we can take everyone into the building at once. Everyone just waits and chats in the lobby, so just look around for us if you're new. If you have problems you can call either of us. Many thanks go to the ABC for providing this venue.

Parking is possible at parking meters around Thomas street and Mary-Anne street. But they take a 2 hour max i think. There are carparks behind the ABC $15 (enter from Thomas street, but on the Chinatown side). Also, you can get all-evening parking at the Citigate (I think that's the name) parking station for (updated) $10 (starting after 5pm, I think, and stays open until well after midnight). It's at the end of the Thomas street dead end (Eastern/Chinatown side), which is very close to the ABC's back entrance.

Agenda:

  • Greetings and Welcome new people + Announcements
  • Presentation: Integrating with Node.js by: Justin Randall
A demo of how Drupal and Node.js can work together.
  • Presentation: Playing with Canvas by: Geoffrey Roberts
A short intro to using Canvas as part of HTML5
  • Planning Session (Ryan Cross to facilitate)
We will brainstorm ideas for the meetups over the rest of the year. Don't Miss it!
  • Continued at the pub with + Drinks/food

Remember to sign up. This will also help us plan numbers/audience.

Post below if you can talk about something (anything is ok, everyone has something to share) or if you're are interested in other topics for discussion.

I've never been to one of

I've never been to one of these I might pop down for a geezer!

Any ideas on what you'll be covering?

Open for now

I haven't gotten anything specific lined up yet, but I was hoping for a showcase from someone. I can reprise my discussion of the qld floods site (D7, high traffic) or anything else people are interested in seeing. It would be best to have someone else step up though I think so we can see other interesting topics.

So, who wants to demo a project they're working on/finished recently?

DrupalDownUnder

I'm happy to go through my DrupalDownUnder session on Turbocharging Drupal.

We've also just launched an 'enterprise' Drupal 7 site, so I'm happy to talk about the issues we faced etc.

Node.js integration

I could talk about/demo some Drupal - Node.js integration code I've been working on.

Sounds good.

I'd like to hear more about it. If not at the meeting then maybe after.

Something simple too

Sounds good to me (was even discussing this just yesterday), and will prevent presentation repeats. I think it might be a bit too technical for some of our audience though.

Can I also get someone to do a module or site demo that might have a broader interest for the group?

Maybe I could do a quick

Maybe I could do a quick intro to Canvas or something? I know either you or someone else expressed interest, even if it wasn't directly related to Drupal.

Sounds good to me. I'll edit the post above to include both.

Please keep them relatively short presentations so we have enough time to do the planning exercise for the rest of the year.

Don't expect internet

rcross's picture

Not sure if you've presented at the ABC before, but don't expect to have internet access for any demos.

Signing up :)

Hey guys,
after meeting so many cool people in Drupal Downunder in Brisbane and at the two catch ups at the Lord Nelson hotel last month, I'm looking forward to meeting more people on Thursday.

See you there

Thanks, it was great catching up with the group members. It good to put faces to name and hear about the work that is being done by the community. I now have a lot to think about. Looking forward to getting stuck into some Drupal development.
