OK can we get a few people to show up? I am willing to throw out this date. As soon as one or two of you fine drupal folks respond we can pick a spot to meet.
I will throw out the Starbucks on US41 and Bahia Vista in Sarasota - or there is a Panera in the same parking lot.

Unfortunately, I teach class
Unfortunately, I teach class until 8:20pm at SCF on Monday evenings.
Per our brief discussions at Florida DrupalCamp, I am very much interested in getting something serious going on for the southwest Florida crowd. I have keys to the computer lab at SCF Bradenton campus and was going to investigate if that might be an option for us. As long as there are no rules against our using it, there are computers there, projector, etc. I just need to find out what the rules are regarding access to school property for non-college associated entities. Since it's not a commercial meeting, the rules might be lenient. It would be pretty sweet, though.
I'll also investigate the wireless situation there. I know it's there, but I've never used it. So I don't know if you need an SCF G00# (student id) to use it, if they have guest logins, or if it's wide open. I'll ask my students.

How about 7pm - 8:30pm first
How about 7pm - 8:30pm first Thursday of every month? Would put it on Mar. 3, same week as proposed. Will give me time next week to see about using computer lab.
Jason, could you check library availability? I should know by Tue. Feb. 22 on the SCF computer lab so we can choose venue then?

Bummer. Looks like SCF is out unless we're collecting dues--SCF will only allow student clubs access. While I could initiate a "club", membership would be closed to SCF students as I understand it. I'm going to pursue some other avenues, but for time being, we should look to the library idea.
Jason, do you want to follow up on this or should I? I'm guessing that availability will be hard to come by and that our first meeting will be at Starbuck's. :-)

Lib location
You can look at the library meeting room schedule online by following this link: http://sclibs.net/meetingrooms.aspx
Most of the places are booked the evening of 3/1, but other evenings are available. SRQ libraries generally are open later on Mon-Wed, close early Thu-Sat.
Let me know your top three meeting location preferences from the following:
Elsie Quirk
Fruitville
Gulf Gate
Jacaranda
North Port
North Sarasota
Selby
Venice
FWIW, the Sarasota Macintosh User Group is meeting at Fruitville on 3/1 from 5:30-7:30.

Jason,
I'm cool with Fruitville, Gulf Gate, or Selby. Fruitville might be more convenient for those who have to travel a bit since it's close to the I75 exit?

Another possible venue might be to partner with the Sarasota PC Users Group. The Sarasota PC Users Group (SPCUG) holds a regular monthly meeting 12 months in the year on the first Wednesday of the month at the Sarasota Middle School on Ashton Road. It also has break out sessions. http://www.spcug.org/index.html
Another possibility is to use the Community foundation of Sarasota on Fruitville.

I've reserved the Fruitville Library meeting room for 4/18 from 6:45-7:45. That's the earliest available evening.

Sorry I missed the fun!
