How to get a 'full listing' for your Drupal site in Google

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I'm not sure that 'full listing' is the appropriate term, but I've noticed that many websites have an extended listing showing links to their main sections. Even this site has an extended listing: see attached screenshot.

I can find no information anywhere on how to get this type of listing.

Is this a paid for Google feature?

This is not a paid feature in google. Your site needs to be #1 on Google Search results and it helps to have a valid sitemap, it's also suggested to submit your sitemap to http://www.google.com/webmaster

Well, it's never worked for me. When I search for my site by name it shows up as number 1 in the search results, but with minimal details. I've been using the Drupal xmlsitemap module for the last 2 years.

I had a feeling it was drupal related. Perhaps the secret is to limit the number of links available on the home page - and avoid duplicate links?

They are called Sitelinks

You are asking about what Google refers to as Sitelinks:

Sitelinks are algorithmically generated links intended to help users navigate quickly to the relevant parts of your site. Not all sites have sitelinks, and they are not always available. We only show sitelinks for results when we think they'll be useful to the user. If the structure of your site doesn't allow our algorithms to find good sitelinks, or if sitelinks for your site aren't relevant to the user's query, they won't be displayed.

Google also provides guidance on Sitelinks in Webmaster Central.

As was noted, your page has to be in the #1 spot, though this is no guarantee the result will display Sitelinks. Our company Drupal 6 website will get Sitelinks for some searches, though not for others, so it isn't the use of Drupal that is preventing you from getting Sitelinks displayed. It is likely related to your site structure and linking practices, as well as how Google is rating your SEO efforts for the terms you are searching by.
