User group meeting
Come out to the MD Drupal meetup and listen to, then discuss Chad Hester's custom module presentation. The MD Drupal meetup is occurring on March 30th at PMG's offices in Columbia.
The meetup starts around 7PM and round table discussions will begin at 7:30.
If you have something you would like to present, please contact Ron Williams (ron@lithicmedia.com or 410-726-7869).
Location Details:
MD Meetup at PMG

A couple of quick tips when coming to PMG for the meetup:
- There is a big sign that marks the building for PMG. It reads "The Woodlands Two."
- The last door on the right will be open.
- We are on the second floor. The best way to get up to the second floor is through the stairs on the right as you walk in. If you can not use
the stairs please call the office (410 290 0667) and someone will come down with a keycard for the elevator. - Once you get upstairs, PMG will be the office right past the elevators.
- There will be signs pointing the way!

Yep!
Keep in mind, I have not made any formal presentation visuals or notes. I simply have a handful of items that I've been thinking about for months that I'd like to speak about and get some feedback on... :)
If this takes off, I think I might try to organize these thoughts into a more detailed write-up for fellow drupalers.
Cya on Wednesday!
Oh, btw, is anyone up for doing dinner before the meetup? I'm probably going to be in Columbia ahead of time to beat rush-hour traffic.
Dinner? Always!
Any place in mind?
I'm guessing something close.
I'm guessing something close. I'll eat almost anything. Red Robin and Pub Dog are thoughts... I'd love to get a good beer before the meetup. :)
I'll try to make it for dinner
Never been to pub dog. Would like to check it out.
Pub Dog it is! What time?

Look forward to meeting everyone!
Can't make the Happy Hour though.
@PubDog
At the end of the bar... Gotta love their 2 for $4 deal! :D
Thanks Chad
Chad,
Thank you for bringing up a few common mistakes and pitfalls with Drupal module development. I hope it reduces the number of cases where these problems crop up after a security or basic update.
Definitely a good meetup topic and group this month!

Help please?
There was a module talked about this evening, that I think was "Site" that sounded interesting, but apparently I'm way off on the name, because I can't seem to find anything close. (And searching for the word "site" in modules is just somewhat less than useless.
I know a couple other modules talked about this evening included Quickforms and my old friend(?) Node Import - those I caught in my notes. This module was talked about before then. Does anyone remember what that module was?
Do you remember what the
Do you remember what the module did?
The other modules I recall being brought up were:

Simplenews - that was it!
Thanks! (How I got "Site...." out of that I'll never know.)
Awesome Meetup!
Tons of new people, and great discussion! Was nice meeting everyone, and hope to see you all again at the next one.
Absolutely true!
I know it's worth my while to make the effort to attend.
thanks, all
as a first-timer, i thought i'd pipe up and say thanks to the whole gang for a very helpful and enjoyable meet-up. cheers to one and all!
It was nice meeting everyone.
It was nice meeting everyone. Looking forward to the next meetup.
Thank you all for listening
Thank you all for listening to my rantings and for contributing to some great discussions... Last night was one of the bigger turn-outs I've seen.
I'll try to give more of a visual presentation next time. Not that I have much more to show than my new puppy, but at least there will be something for everyone. :D

Wanted to say something last night.....

Congrats! That's really _cool_
I saw where the project was posted on Monday - http://drupal.org/node/1100308 - didn't know you had anything to do with it until your post though. Kudos!
Aaron: congratulations!!
Aaron: congratulations!!
Thanks
Would like to talk a little about it at the next meet-up. Hopefully, by then we will have some of the custom modules that we used up on D.O. as well.
Good stuff
I was impressed by the diverse group of quality folks last night. Looking forward to getting together again soon.

Ideas for next month?
Just tossing out a couple ideas that might be worth presenting on during a meeting:
Using the Context module
"Non-obvious" usage of modules (e.g. Using "webform" for a "Contact Us" page) The idea is to collect and present ways that people have used modules (or core functionality) in different or creative ways that aren't directly described by the documentation.
Email from a site. Last night was the second time I can remember a sidebar discussion concerning email got rather involved. Seems like there might be a fair amount of interest in the subject.
Decision points. With "x" ways to perform any particular task, what are some of the questions you should ask to guide your decision? (There are probably a good number of tasks to which this concept applies, such as "CCK vs custom node module".)
Panels vs "Page Manager" vs "CTools".
Using git - both with drupal.org and independently
HTML Mails from rules and other modules
I know that I brought this up and at the meeting I couldn't remember the name of the module that I had tested out that allowed you to setup HTML emails from your site, and I just came across it in notes for something else: http://drupal.org/project/mimemail
It does work, but it doesn't allow you to set up separate templates for each email or anything along those line, just adds basic html formatting.
