I'm Oxford based currently working on a project using Drupal 6. My background is in web development, and I have lots of experience with Perl, PHP, mySQL, CSS, HTML, etc; mainly writing code from the ground up.
I've been struggling with Drupal for a while now and have managed to produce some of the site, but find it difficult to know how's best to do certain things, if they are doable and where to start. In essence I'm kind of drowning in the size of Drupal and all the different levels at which things can be done (theme, page, node, panel, block, view, module, coding hack) and really need a helping hand from a seasoned Drupaler.
I need someone that could sit down with me and the job I'm working on for say 4 hours, but up to as much as a day and tell me whether I'm barking up the right or wrong tree with how I'm implementing stuff, if I could do it better a different way, which modules really are good and the ones one wants to use, quick tips for how to get the theming sorted, that kind of thing.
This is for a commercial job and I'm most willing to pay someone for their time.

Great to hear that you're based in Oxford.
We have a user group meetup that you may be interested in. It is currently managed through meetup.com http://www.meetup.com/Oxford-Drupal-Users-Group/ and we have yet to schedule the next meetup, but there are always lots of friendly Drupalers sharing their knowledge and experience.
