Class Recommendations for a Drupal Neophyte

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello all,

I am a site maintainer for my office currently and use html in dreamweaver. We are revamping our website and will be using Drupal to do so. I have no experience whatsoever with it or PHP and was wondering if someone could recommend a class I could take either in the Boston area or online for PHP/Drupal, etc.

Thank you so much :)

About Classes to Get Started with Drupal

Greetings:

As I can think of, I know no formal courses for PHP and Drupal for your skill level. I do know of learning another programming language and then using that knowledge to learn PHP(that's how I did). (But read on! I might have something than can help you).
I think a "Hot Ticket" Would be to Set Up Novice to Pro Programming Sessions where People would meet together and just code.
That would be lots of Fun (Bring a Laptop, Ideas, maybe some snacks and just code away in a big conference room!)
I have some programming background, but I learned Drupal by downloading version 4.7.5 (way back when) and Just getting hands on, coding things, Googling tips and info, looking at www.drupal.org. I also learned quite a bit by going to DrupalCon 2008 this past March in Boston, meeting with Matt Westgate, buying his book (Pro Drupal Development) and working through all the exercises in his book. That would be fun to just work through the exercises in a group!
Working exercises in a group seems like something one does in University, therefore it makes it an impromptu class!
You know what? ,I'm thinking about volunteering and teaching one , if I can find the space and time here in Boston..

O'Reilly Classes

Not sure if they are exactly what you are looking for, but O'Reilly does offer some online classes in PHP. They aren't Drupal specific and I haven't taken one before, but I thought I would post in case it helps.

Lullabot DVD & classes

Hi,

Take a look at the Lullabot dvd "Understanding Drupal" http://store.lullabot.com/collections/frontpage/products/understanding-d...

It might be a good start. Their tutorials have been very helpful to me. I haven't been to any of their classes, mostly due to cost, but if your employers are willing to pay for them, it could be a good start with Drupal.

All the best!
