Drupaleros!

At Barcamp last Thursday, Jerry Rapes, the head honcho of Exist gave his go signal to host Drupal Day at their office in Ortigas. On top of that, our good friend Jay Aguilar (a proud Filipino Google developer) has also committed to donate some funds for food and booze. Ergo, we should do a Drupal Day ASAP, before Jay leaves. We are tentatively scheduling this on Sep 11 or Sep 25, both on THURSDAY at 6:30 PM.

AM? PM?

loloyd's picture

No time schedule yet? It will be a bit harder to commit if we don't have any idea on what time of day we are planning to hold this meetup.

I also read "At Barcamp last Thursday" as "Last summer, at band camp" from the American Pie movie. :-P

Only local images are allowed.

i'm so there (if it's PM)!

uhmm.. how? frankly I just

ghmercado's picture

uhmm.. how? frankly I just wanna learn from Marc. I don't think I'll be any help organizing :)

oh btw, PLUG will be joining

ghmercado's picture

oh btw, PLUG will be joining an event at the end of September, called IT Expo.

It's a fairly informal affair with a few volunteered machines and such. So far a few PLUG members will be making presentations, and in fact I was thinking of signing up to talk about CMS systems myself.

Anyway, the PLUG website was made via the kind efforts of Marc Robinsone. Insofar as PLUG uses Drupal (and I personally do, heavily so), I would like to invite the Phil. Drupal Group to just come over and use our booth to meet up as well.

PLUG will join I.T. Expo 2008, to be held at Philippine Trade Training Center from Sep. 30 (Saturday) to Oct 2 (Tuesday), 2008.

Just come over, no signups necessary, introduce yourselves to us at the booth and lets get pics taken. I think we can use the organizer's facilities (a stage, etc.), to discuss stuff. Kayo na bahala malaki naman yung lugar e.

I'll update as necessary. THanks!

Fixed schedule

loloyd's picture

I was looking into the Friday meetup sana as mas alanganin ako mag-commit over Monday and especially Tuesday. Pasensya na po.

If we had a rather "fixed" day for a monthly Drupal day meetup, it would be theoretically easier to arrange our schedules around it. The biggest obstacle is always an appropriate venue. The FireflyBrigade, a biking advocacy group, has a recurring event named the Critical Mass Ride (DL, take note ka dito baka gusto mong sumama hehehe) targeted to be held on every third Saturday of the month. The assembly venues are normally TBA.

I don't have enough sensible answers yet. The informal restaurant meet-up in the past, although hindi ako naka-attend noon, was a very good idea though. What's really needed is a place big enough for us to fit in, and where it's hospitable enough for us to make sensible noise too. Friendly establishments like that do exist, for example, good old - McDo.

I usually join their mass

DL's picture

I usually join their mass rides. They have monthly mass rides + the sunday before earth day, that is the main event, with this year having no less than 6k riders joining.

Mass rides

loloyd's picture

You are apparently talking about the Tour of the Fireflies. It's a yearly event. Nandiyan sa vicinity ng 6k ang dami ng mga sumali for this year and last year. On the other hand, the Critical Mass ride happens at around the 3rd weekend of every month. Meron na naman ngayong 20th - World Car Free Day para sa mga interested, just in case: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fireflybrigade/files/cmr_2008.jpg
or
http://s156.photobucket.com/albums/t30/bikerkrx/?action=view&current=cmr...

The Firefly Brigade is an alternative transport advocacy group with their website at http://www.fireflybrigade.org/ and there's this other guy pushing for the Joomla-ization of its website. Ako naman yung nag pro-propose na i-Drupal iyon. So far, wala namang aksyon pa ang maintainer ng site.

Only local images are allowed.

Sana mag mass ride sila

DL's picture

Sana mag mass ride sila outside manila, like Tagaytay or Cavite or better yet Baguio. Kasi kung sa loob lang ng Metro Manila, nakakasawa na.

What's a mass ride?

What's a mass ride? Ay nakasulat na pala sa itaas. Off topic hehe.

Off-topic furtherance, sorry

loloyd's picture

Metro rides can indeed be nakakasawa. But the biking advocacy behind it need not be. Besides, you get to meet new people while freshening up on your inspiration in the love and highlighting the need for alternative transportation. UP tibaks unite, post-academe. Firefly Brigade also attempts to spice up the monthly rides by making them "bike-to-eat" rides and going as far as showcasing the hidden or not-so-well-known tourist destinations in our metropolis. It's a pretty cool learn-while-you-ride campaign. You can matter-of-factly call that "expanding our horizons".

In the meantime, the massive, friendly and open PMTB http://www.pinoymtbiker.org/ usually has outdoorsy rides going to Antipolo, Tagaytay, even Baguio, etc. This group is an avid supporter of Firefly Brigade's advocacy events.

These are my "hobbies": biking, Drupal, Rubik's cubes and having fun among them.

See you in one of those rides. :-D

Sorry...

loloyd's picture

...for not replying sooner but I've been very busy with pointless work these past few days. Consequently, we have been inundated with countless out-of-town and in-house workshops lately. I guess you understand naman the iniquities of this government in handling its workforce.

My problem is that I am not able to confirm my attendance this Thursday, September 11 (that's 9-11!) with final certainty. Hindi lang pahirap at pa-importante epek, hindi pa ako makatulong sa pag-organize, tsk tsk tsk. BIG SORRY. Let me just pay for my sins with boxes of pizza next time - but don't get your hopes up, baka boxes lang walang pizza hehehe. Or maybe, ice cream by the gallon. Mas mura kasi yon. And the satisfaction gained is probably comparable naman din.

I am still held hostage by tentatively scheduled workshops at work. At kung limited man yung seats sa Drupal day, naging filled up na lahat, at nagkaroon naman ako ng breakthrough sa sked ko, mag-ge-gate-crash na lang ako hahaha. You may not be able to resist me crashing in because I could be bringing with me some ice cream. Or maybe you'll admit the ice cream but kick me out :-P. In the nuts. Nuts. Ultimately, this means I'll be relegated to the waiting list.

Teka, saan po ba yung Drupal day? May place of worship na ba tayo? Amen! Where the heck is Exist in Ortigas? Di ba sarado pa rin ang San Miguel Avenue at that time dahil sa Oktoberfest? May beer ba? Beer and ice cream do not mix well in the gut, you know...

Only local images are allowed.

DRUPAL DAY -- please sign up

benc's picture

I've just received word that our sponsor for the meet up (Pinoy Google Developer Jay Aguilar) was able to extend his stay in the Philippines.

Because of this, we can now have more time to gather attendees. Sorry sa papalit-palit na sked, but please await the final skeds on this link: http://groups.drupal.org/node/14434.

Drupal PH Sept Meet-up

rbahaguejr's picture

If members are having problems with the sched, I suggest we all attend the Software Freedom Day 2008 celebration at the University of Makati (sept 20, saturday). Marc is a resource speaker for the Drupal Session breakout. It will be an introduction to drupal.

If there are significant number of attendees from the group... we can reserve a breakout room for Drupal Technical topics and other CMSes. CP-Union is organizing SFD 2008. This will also be the meet-up. So we now have two options for the meet-up.

Visit www.cp-union.com and www.sfdphil.org for details on the event.
