Been looking at some new options for VPS (virtual private server) and dedicated host providers.
I use linode now, which is great, but I'm looking for even more power/storage for a couple of sites. Currently looking at slicehost and hostican for VPS as well.
If I consolidated my clients on a singe system, I could go for a dedicated host.
So, how 'bout sharing some recommendations for VPS or dedicated?
also, know anyone local?
Thanks,
Roger

Slicehost
I've been using Slicehost for a several months now and have been quite happy with both service and performance. Dotster is local and offers a VPS which I manage for a client.

slicehost is good
I can heartily recommend slicehost as an excellent VPS provider. I don't know if it's what people consider 'bare metal' or not, but the services are plenty fast, and priced right as well. In my comparison shopping it looked like linode might have actually had better pricing, but I hadn't heard of them when I went with slicehost.
For local, I would look into Easystreet or Infinity Internet.
As far as dedicated vs. VPS, i've noticed that slicehost now has a 4GB instance, which would rival most dedicated services with similar pricing, and give you the option to scale it up and down as needed to meet demand.
Also, this would be a bit more work to setup, but Amazon Web Services now have a setup for persistent storage 'disks.' Their EBS service paired with a small EC2 instance would run around $85 a month for 1.7GB ram, and 10GB disk storage, with a few snapshot backups. This would probably involve quite a bit of setup though in monitoring, and possibly backup instances, and just to disclaim, I HAVE NOT TRIED IT YET, it is still very very new.
Opus Interactive is local and has a great space.
They have kind of a lame control panel - but that could have been upgraded in the last couple of years.

VPS
I use LiquidWeb for my VPS. I've gotten excellent customer service there and it's the best hosting I've ever had.
I found that http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ is a great place to look for specials and coupons once you're ready to purchase space. I got a great upgrade on my package for free that way.

Network Redux
Another local option is Network Redux. They're recently changed their focus from both single site hosting and VPS to fully VPS. Been using them for some small local sites but they've always been pretty responsive in support the times I've requested it.
