A very important point emerged that the budget proposal can include some money to pay for the person who takes 3 months or so of their time to organize the 'con. So, for example, if Bob wants to organize Drupalcon, he could have a line item in the larger budget that says "€3,000/ month for the three months leading up to the Drupalcon to facilitate full time organizing effort."
It should be kept within reason, but this should allow a 'con organizer the professional and financial freedom to really focus on the event.

since quite everyone suggested 2 head organizers (like what Gabor and Kristof have been to the Szeged Drupalcon), is this policy valid for 2 people, too?

So wie ich das verstanden habe wird die Drupal Association nicht direkt Geld für diese Aufgabe zur Verfügung stellen, sondern diesen Posten als Teil eines Budgets sehen. Ob nun eine oder zwei Personen "bezahlt" werden ist also mehr eine Frage des Budgets der DrupalCon.
Es ist Geld das entweder von Sponsoren oder den Teilnehmern kommen muss.
Von daher ist das so ein zweischneidiges Schwert. Da wir fast alle Freiberufler sind, werden wir wohl ohne eine Kompensation nicht auskommen, aber sie muss irgendwie im Rahmen bleiben.
Beim Film gibt es das Prinzip der Rückstellung. Leistungen werden erst bezahlt, wenn die Gewinnzone erreicht ist. Vielleicht ist das ein Kompromiss.

Is there any more information around the compensation? There was an effort to organise a DrupalCon in Australia in May, but it imploded. I'm not sure if I would be comfortable having the same person/s resurrecting it. Could the compensation be awarded only after certain criteria are met, e.g. a vote of confidence?
(Don't mean to hijack the thread, but am interested in how other groups are organising themselves).
