I'd just like to reference http://drupal.org/project/placeholder since placeholder values seem like a really nice usability feature with HTML5.
Presently there is just a Drupal 6 version of this code, but it's essentially just a function & some javascript so really think it might be better placed in a larger set of HTML5 tools.
I haven't seen any discussion about this, so this might be a really short thread, but I'm hoping to incorporate this in a Drupal 7 - HTML5 site.

I disagree about the usability. It's not correct for a text field to appear to have a value, but not really, so the user tries to highlight the text so they can delete or overwrite it, but then they click in the field and the text disappears... If you think about it, it really is a WTF.
I think this got codified in HTML 5 because every bum and their mother was doing it anyway rather than it being any sort of good practice.

I'm sure it's something that can be abused and can be confusing, but I'm not particularly interested in discussing usability in this post. I generally leave that to others if I can. This is a feature of HTML5 that seems to be supported in http://drupal.org/project/elements and is a practice that seems to be used on Drupal.org.
I'd like some feedback on how to best implement this (or other HTM5 elements) in standard Drupal forms (like say contact or search). It could well be a bad idea at the end of the day, but I need some pointers to the docs on how to implement this.
