I was wondering if any of you had used the video subscription service that Lullabot offers now, called found at http://drupalize.me/.

I was thinking of signing up, but just wondering if it is worth it. I read their "Using Drupal" book a while back and found it very informative. I have never seen any of their DVD videos they produced, which I assume that is where most of the videon on the site comes from.

If you have any other videos on Drupal you would recommend, I would like to hear as well.

I have purchased most all the Lullabot videos for my department. I, personally, learned a great deal through watching the videos. My staff has just started watching them, but have provided positive feedback as well.

I haven't purchased a subscription yet. IMO the price is too high at $55 per month. They do produce great content though. Other good sites with video tutorials?

More about Drupalize.me

jjeff's picture

Of course, I'm not really objective here, but I just wanted to jump in and add some more information about Drupalize.me. First, we've just lowered the price. The price is now $45/mo with our month-to-month plan and just $35/mo if you get a 1 year subscription. With over 138 hours of high-definition video (as of this writing), Drupalize.me is the largest repository of Drupal training videos you'll find anywhere. We've got all of the content from the popular Lullabot Learning Series DVDs (which @rkoonts mentions above) and also all of the video content from two years of the Do It With Drupal Conference (which, coincidentally, @attheshow attended – hi Mark!). Of course, what's more important than quantity is the quality of the videos. We've got Drupal's top trainers and experts and we spend a lot of time making sure that we're explaining things in a clear, down to earth, manner which everyone can understand. We also think it's important to create dense, sometimes fast-paced, and congenial videos which might express some personality and humor. Because, let's be honest, some of this content can be pretty darned dry! So we do what we can to keep it interesting and fun.

We're working hard to produce new high-quality video content and we'll have new videos coming out every few weeks. Look for lots of new Drupal 7 videos in the coming weeks and months. We've also got a team of people working on the site to make it fun and easy-to-use and as helpful as possible for people who want to learn Drupal. We're open to suggestions and we really want this to be a great way for both new and experienced Drupal people to quickly expand their knowledge.

Our videos currently play on both Flash and iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad and we use adaptive bitrate switching so you'll be able to watch them even if you've got more limited bandwidth such as a 3G mobile connection. Additionally, we're working on dedicated apps for iOS and Android, and integration with Roku's streaming players so you'll be able to easily watch the videos on your television.

Hope that's helpful for you. I realize that there are a number of different options out there and it can be unclear what each has to offer.

Hi Jeff!

That's great about the price reduction. I hadn't heard about that yet.

Yes, the DIWD conference was great in 2008. I hope to be able to attend again this year. I still find myself referring to that video content from time to time to see exactly how a particular example was accomplished. I'm a very visual learner, so I think video training is a great model. It's great that we have such a variety of sources of training in the Drupal community.

I gotta give props to Lullabot on the Drupalize.me site. For less than the price of a single training DVD per month, you can access a TON of videos that cover a bunch of different topics. More importantly, there are videos for varying levels of Drupal skill.
I like to think I'm pretty good at Drupal. I've utilized it to do all kinds of mainstream and crazy things. That being said, I watched about 7 videos my first month and learned a ton.
Favorites gotta be the pair programming video with Jeff and Angie (if only to realize that such experienced and awesome Drupal people hit the API pages as often as I do and forget to return their $form variable on occasion as well) and their jQuery/AJAX/AHAH videos with Jeff Eaton.
I would suggest to you, as I have others, to go ahead and get it the first month. Check it out and see for yourself. It's comparable to the price of a Drupal book and I bet you'll learn more that first month than you would have out of a book.

Thanks for the comments

Thanks everyone for your input on this.

I noticed they have some of the videos on the site for free. I watched a couple of them and was very impressed with the quality.
