Newbie Questions - What is a "Track"

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello,
Please bear with me. I have used Drupal quite a lot, but am new to COD. I am going through the documentation, but need a little help.

First question: I'm at the "Update the session Track field allowed values in the Session content type." Is a "track" a group of sessions? Like Friday evening sessions vs. Saturday afternoon sessions?

Subject grouping

I can't speak for the COD distribution itself, but in general a Track is a sequence of sessions relating to a theme. For example at a Drupal Camp you might have the following tracks(along with others)

Newbie Track- a sequence of sessions that are specifically oriented toward new users
Designer Track - a sequence of Design oriented sessions. That might be theming, CSS etc.
Developer Track - a sequence of Developer oriented sessions. They might cover Upgrading a module from one release to another, a coding session, etc.

Exactly

That's exactly what was meant with the "tracks" field in COD, a topical grouping of sessions. Feel free to alter the name of the field from "track" to something else if you like, such as "topics" for example.

Disabling the tracks?

What is the best way to disable the track feature without breaking anything else? I tried just turning off the requirement for setting the track and experience level, but that caused some ugly errors.

My conference will only have a single track and all attendees will likely attend all sessions. I don't think we will have sessions overlapping each other in different rooms. I want to pare down the basic COD installation to make it less confusing for users.

Great job so far, though. It is amazing that I can get this stuff for free!
