hi,
I'm planning a website that will enable user open and mange groups.
Is there any limitation for the number of groups drupal can handle efficiently?
if i have something like 50,000 groups, what will happen to the select boxes lists displaying lists of groups in the admin ui?

I had the same question. OG for D7 is still in heavy development though, so I am sure there will be some waiting. It is also dependent on community contributions for submodules, as one module maintainer or even a handful simple can not be expected to handle everything(especially when there are contributing for free). I did post a future feature request for this: http://drupal.org/node/1178616. The only advice I can give is either to take on developing a submodule or hire a developer. I am not aware of any current out of the box solutions for this so far, if i am wrong I would be more than happy to hear that:).
