Petition/send petition module or setup?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

A client has asked me to set up a page which involves signing a 'petition' and emailing it to friends. I was curious if anyone has any recommendations of either modules or methods (forms/rules/actions) to implement this? Drupal 7 only.

Thought this is a pretty old thread - thought I might put in my 2 cents.
We are doing petitions in our D6 install (http://petitions.halabol.com) - and it basically involves 2 content types - Petition and Petition Signature with node reference linking them. Use some form alters/ formblock module etc. to show the signature form on the petition page, and rules can be used to send out mails. Hope this helps.
