Hi all. I was thinking that it would be fun if we designated one day a week as a meatspace day. On that day, some of us get together in a room somewhere and work individually on our projects. Just bring a laptop. Is a good time to get help from each other and build some contacts and friendships.
I propose the first meatspace take place this Friday at MIT Stata Center. They have free wifi (a requirement), and lots of tables and rooms. The building was designed by Frank Gehry, and is an inspiring venue. The only hard part will be finding each other. We'll think of something.
Can anyone make it this Friday? Is this an attractive idea?

Yes, I think this is a great idea. My partner and I often work together, but independently, so that one can always pop his head up and ask the other "how should I be doing this?" The larger the community, the better! I think once a month might be a better schedule, and moving the venues around would certainly be beneficial for everyone. This is a good place and locale, and great idea. I don't think I'd make it this Friday as it's a little short notice. Also looking forward to meeting other Drupal developers in the area.

Especially on the weekends. I'm wondering whether it might be a good idea to also have a hangout or two that are consistent and just drop in and eventually another Drupaller comes by. . .
What are people's favorite coffee houses? Are there any night owls out there? Anyone know of a good place to work at night that has wifi? (I'd drive a considerable distance for that.)

PS One of my favorite places to work is the Junebug on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain. Really comfy seating. Lots of outlets. Good coffee and some really great sandwiches. Open til 10:00 PM.

Yes, it's an attractive idea. No, Friday isn't good for me and probably never will be, but then again, I'm unlikely to have any days for this until mid-November at the earliest.

The authors of of the fine IBM Developerworks articles about Drupal will be there around 9:30am and are eager to meet local Drupalites.
We'll see how it goes tomorrow and then schedule another Meatspace day accordingly.
