Today's PDX Drupal Meeting: One of the Best Ever!

BenK's picture

Yes, today's PDX Drupal meeting is one of the best lineups of speakers we've ever had! In the next few minutes, I'll be posting descriptions of each presentation. If you've been missing some meetings as of late, this is absolutely the one you need to attend!

Media Module: Presented by Alex Bronstein

BenK's picture

Here's a description of Alex Bronstein's upcoming presentation on the Media Module:

Alex Bronstein (effulgentsia) has been developing with Drupal since version 4.6, and has been an active contributor to Drupal 7 core and several contrib modules, including Media. He currently works for Acquia as a Drupal Gardens developer. He will present an overview of the Media project, what the Media module does on its own, and how it can be extended. He will keep the presentation short to leave plenty of time for Q&A and group discussion.

The Media project aims to solve Drupal's long standing media handling challenges by building on Drupal 7's new file API to unify how images, audio, video, and documents, whether local or remote, are attached to content and displayed. It combines uploaded files and remote multimedia assets into a single virtual library, allowing any asset to be reused across multiple pieces of content. In Drupal 7, files are entities, and any entity can be made fieldable, so metadata fields (e.g., tags, description, etc.) can be added to any media asset.

Don't miss this presentation tonight at 6:00 pm!

Optimizing Varnish for Drupal: Presented by Aaron Longwell

BenK's picture

Here's a description of Aaron Longwell's upcoming presentation on the Optimizing Varnish for Drupal. We received such a strong response from Aaron's last presentation that he's delving this time into the nitty gritty of Varnish performance. See you tonight!

Varnish is much easier to configure and customize than many people realize. This presentation will demonstrate several Varnish techniques on a real Drupal site. We'll build from a universal base configuration up to the highly site-specific configuration used on KentuckyDerby.com. You should be able to take the techniques in this presentation and apply them to any site to get substantial performance increases, even if you're not serving a million requests an hour.

Drush 5 Preview: Presented by Moshe Weitzman

We're also fortunate to have at this meeting Moshe Weitzman, one of the most prominent Drupal developers in the world and a regular speaker at numerous DrupalCons. Here's a description of his presentation:

drush is a command line shell and scripting interface for Drupal, a veritable Swiss Army knife designed to make life easier for those of us who spend some of our working hours hacking away at the command prompt. Moshe will preview the exciting new features in Drush 5, including time for both demo and questions.

Don't miss his presentation tonight at 6:00 pm!

Thanks For Signing Up for Dev Cloud

chrisstrahl's picture

Guys!

Thanks to all the attendees for signing up for a free Acquia Dev Cloud. Overall, we got 35 signups for a free small instance! That's awesome!

There have been some questions about how to claim these - for everyone that signed up on the site we'll be sending out a private confirmation code. You should be getting an email from Heidi Wettach with more information on how to apply this code and get your free system.

Thanks again, and stay tuned for Heidi's email with your personal discount code.

Please remember, this discount code is only able to be applied to our small server size, and gets you free Dev Cloud for one whole year.

Regards,

Chris

Everyone Get their Codes?

chrisstrahl's picture

Hey Guys,

Heidi sent out the codes late last week. If anyone didn't receive their code, please send me a quick note and I'll make sure you get it.

Thanks!
