The Foundation For Caregivers (www.ffcg.org) is a 501 c 3 in need of a (or multiple) volunteer(s) who can assist by developing some custom code for a Drupal 7 project we have been developing. The effort is estimated to require less than a week.
The project we are developing is an “open/shared fundraising platform” that will benefit the global nonprofit community in a major way. It will be provided free of charge so that anyone, anywhere can fundraise for any cause anywhere. For example, a person in Chicago can set up a Bike To Give a-thon and designate an orphanage in Australia. This is similar in many ways to the micro finance model as illustrated by www.kiva.org.
Any cause or organization (e.g., a company or an alumni association) user can set up a campaign and then start a-thons within their campaign. Individual users can join a-thons or sponsor participants. Individuals can also start a-thons within a standing “common” campaign that exists so that any individual (individuals are not allowed to start campaigns) can start a-thons.
The Foundation will not charge or collect any fees for use of our system … all money flows directly to the cause’s PayPal account (or they will when we get that part working). We will, of course ask for donations, and advertising on the site should (eventually) pay the site operating costs, but the purpose of the system is to assist small nonprofits to generate the funds they need.
Other than the Foundation site itself, I am new to web development. I started learning Drupal when V7 was first released, at this time the site is ~90% complete. I am not a coder and I have taken it about as far as I can without assistance. Custom code is needed to deal with three critical issues. 1) Recording of an individual’s completion of an a-thon, and then verification by a 3rd party. For example, someone has completed a 10 K run; they must be able to record this fact and then someone else must verify their entry. 2) The system then needs to calculate the sponsorship amounts and process the invoice emails to the sponsors. For example, if the participant pledged to run a 10 K but only ran 8 K the sponsor would only owe 80% of their pledge. 3) Finally we need to direct the payment to the various PayPal accounts (one per a-thon).
Aside from the custom code, there are a few cleanup items like limiting it so that a user can only join an a-thon one time and only during the active period, making sure campaign authors can lock their campaign so that they are the only ones able to start an a-thon within that campaign, and making the various links into more visible buttons. I am trying to get my head wrapped around CSS, Context, and other mysteries to make these changes. Any help in these areas would also be greatly appreciated. Contact me at tgriswold@ffcg.org or on Skype ID: tgriswold and I will be happy to walk you through the site and discuss issues.
While the Foundation cannot compensate you or your organization for your contribution, we would be happy to credit your contribution on the website.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
