Event type:
Training (free or commercial)

Bob Christenson (aka Rob Feature) from Mustardseed Media, Inc. will be teaching this seminar on "real world" Drupal theming. He will be talking more about the practical "how to theme" and will NOT be doing in depth detail on how the Drupal theme system works (although we'll cover the basics of course).

This event will cover the same material being presented at the NYC Theming Session on January 24.

Bob is a themer, not a developer, so expect a designer's view on the Drupal theme system, not a programmer/developer's view. This will be most helpful if you are an HTML/CSS designer and want to learn how to theme/style Drupal. Even if you're a Drupal developer who knows most of the mechanics involved, Bob's point of view as a designer can bring some useful insight and make you rethink some of your existing theming process.

Cornerstone Church is 3 miles north of M-59 on Hickory Ridge Road. If you are coming via US-23, I do not recommend exiting at Clyde Road, as it is mostly unpaved.

Please enter the facility using the double doors facing the north parking lot. Signs will be posted for your assistance.

Hope to see you there!

Different than last michigan training

Rob_Feature's picture

Hey All...
Just a note here for those of you that attended the last training I did for Drupal theming earlier this year: This event will contain different, more organized, and more in depth information than the previous training. It's not the same info.

I just wanted to throw that out there in case some of you were thinking "I already went to this..." Hope to see you all there!

I will be there!!!

Wouldn't miss it!

Looking forward to it.

I'll be there, Lord willing!

I'm in to that...

ChurchTechGuy's picture

Come on... what's wrong with a 4 hour road trip for a 5 hour Seminar?
Absolutely nothing if it's being done by Rob Feature.
The truck's got plenty of gas, I've got nothing on my schedule... count me in!!!

Hey Peter!

Sounds great. Looking forward to seeing you there!

'Cause you're keeping count

I'm bringing two or three people with me.

I'm signing up for my other half

Theresa will be there - she doesn't yet have a drupal.org account...

I will be there

2ndmile's picture

Weather permitting I will be there. Coming from Canton Ohio. Do I get a door prize for farthest traveler, if in fact I am? This will be my first Drupal get together and I am pretty excited.

Where am I?

Ya!!! A Door Prize...

ChurchTechGuy's picture

It may be a tough call though. According to google, Canton is a 4 hour and 2 minute drive, and mine is a 4 hour drive, so it depends on where in Canton your coming from. Either way it's good to know that I'm not the only crazy one.
Here's hoping the boarder crossing isn't too slow on Saturday.

Capturing

2ndmile's picture

Hey Micah,

I am a professional videographer by trade. I can bring along one of my HD cameras and a wireless mic to film the whole event if you need it. I can either give the tapes to you or I could capture the video straight into Final Cut. If you brought an external hard drive we could just capture the files to it and you could then post it however you want.

Let me know.

Where am I?

re: Capturing

micahw156's picture

At one point, I talked to connectedgeek over IM about capturing and streaming. IIRC, he was hoping for an HD camera, so if you want to bring one, that could work out well. Maybe you could record to tape and feed the stream simultaneously. If the two of you want to put your heads together on this between now and Saturday, please do.

We'll have a Sennheiser B-range mic on Bob already for room reinforcement and should have a belt-pack receiver available to match it, and/or an extra receiver with balanced 1/4" out.

Micah

Should work

2ndmile's picture

I use Sennheiser B-range mics as well so that will work. I have no experience with streaming. I would rather capture straight to hard drive so that I will not have to capture later. I will try to get there 30 mins early so we can get it all set up. If you just want to stream it and not post it later than I won't even bother capturing or recording it.

Where am I?

We've discussed both options

micahw156's picture

We've discussed both streaming and recording, both for previous sessions and for the NYC session the following week. Maybe you can handle recording and connectedgeek can handle the live streaming.

I will be there at least an hour early, maybe more.

Will the audio or video be posted afterward?

glidetothehoop's picture

Hi Guys,

Unfortunately, I can't make this weekend. But are you thinking of posting audio and/or video that are captured. The theming topic is a something I'm really interested in.

Sincerely,

Greg

I plan on leaving my house

connectedgeek's picture

I plan on leaving my house just before 11am. I live by 75 and 696. Google Maps says I am about an hour away.

Let me know if you guys need anything??

See you on Saturday!!!

I'm interested but...

bsheitman's picture

I'm definitely interested - but I'm not quite 100% since I just found out about this this morning and it's a long drive from Central New York.

streaming

bsheitman's picture

...will their definitely be a streamed recording available for us long distance slackers?

Streaming

micahw156's picture

We are planning on streaming, but of course anything can happen.

If you can make it tomorrow, we'd be glad to have you join us, but if you're in New York, you might consider the session that's happening next weekend in New York City. Depending on where you are in the state, it may be a shorter drive for you. The same material will be covered. See http://groups.drupal.org/node/17473 for details.

Micah

We wouldn't miss this!

Kirk and I will be there!

If all goes well... I will

Now Streaming Live

Now live at the above address.

Home Sweet Home

ChurchTechGuy's picture

Well it took a little longer coming home then I had planned, but Home I did make it.
Hope everyone else got home safe too.

Rob, I was just looking at my notes and found one I forgot to mention to you... You may have caught it already... on the first CCK slide you have the word "any" in place of "and". Nothing earth shattering, but thought I'd pass it on before NYC.

Now I just need to find some time to put this new knowledge to work.

See some of you in Orlando next month....

Oh... and thanks to Micah for hosting this, it was well worth the drive. 478 Miles round trip.

Glad you made it home
