Venue for next Glasgow meetup

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

At last night's meetup our newest face (and fourth Paul) suggested some great new ideas for meetup venues. We all liked the idea of finding a suitable venue for a more structured meeting with a handy pub nearby to retire to after presentations. Preferably somewhere free!

Paul suggested:

  1. Strathclyde uni - Glasgow LUG meetings take place here, with people meeting up to eat and drink before and after at the Counting House (a massive Wetherspoons in George Square). Paul is going to find out what arrangement they have with the uni and whether it would be possible for us to do similarly.

  2. The Electron club (www.electronclub.org) - a community-run hackspace at the Centre for Contemporary Arts on Sauchiehall Street. How cool is that? Looks like the space is free most Thursdays in the next couple of months - the only Thursday bookings in the calendar are 20th Oct and 10th Nov. So maybe we could use it if we went for 27th Oct? Would that date work?

It was also agreed that the Go Slow Cafe was a pretty good venue for presentations etc. and this could be a fallback venue for the October meetup if we can't get either of the above.

Thoughts?

Sponsorship

Hi everyone,

I have been contacted by Cathcart Associates (after Paul Miller pitched the idea to them) about sponsoring the next Drupal Drinks on 20th October. I'm unsure about what this will consist of, it may just be picking up a few rounds at the bar at this stage.

However we will need to decide on venue for next week. From the suggestions Cat has posted, it looks like the Electron club is fully booked next week and the subsequent Thursday according to the calendar.

I can check availability for the Cafe? or we can try and organise something with Strathclyde Uni?

regards,
Paul

Ah dear, we were too slow

Ah dear, we were too slow this month! I think, do whatever is easiest. Probably the Cafe? I wouldn't really know where to start with Strathclyde Uni.

For once I can suggest something I'd love to hear about, which is Organic Groups. It's a big topic and would be great to have an overview from somebody with experience of the OG ecosystem.

Once more into Mono?

Hi everyone,

I think we might be as well going back to Mono and picking a quiet spot for someone to do a short talk. We will more than likely get 4/5 people max, so it won't be so bad.

With regards to talks, I will prepare a talk on Commerce, getting started and how to organise products, attributes etc. Is there anyone with experience with Organic Groups? come forward and do a short talk too please.

So if no one has any objections, 6.30pm @ Mono on Thursday 20th October

regards,
Paul

Oragnic Groups

I have done some work with Organic Groups though havent been to any the meet ups yet. So would need a wee bit information what is required of one of these talks... and what people are interested in with OG. Current implementation is as an Intranet/Extranet Solution.

OG

Hey presm

A 15-20 minute overview from a site admin and developer's point of view would be great. You don't need to prepare a powerpoint style presentation but a bit of a prepared structure to the talk would be useful.

We are a growing group but don't normally have more than 8 people attending at this stage and it's a very laid back bunch. It would be wonderful if you could come along and join us.

Cool! I requested the OG

Cool! I requested the OG talk and what I'm looking for is really a basic overview of what sort of things are possible using it and recommendations of modules that extend and interact with it.

It is a really informal group so we won't be expecting a swishy presentation - just a bit of a show and tell about cool stuff you've done with Organic Groups and be prepared to have your brains picked clean :)

Looking forward to meeting you.

We can meetup at Exotic India Restauranat which is situated in Renfrew.

I can get huge discount on food for Druapl Group

They Serve Drinks as well.

I can understand its far from town, but for any presentation and lectures this place will be good till we get place in city center.

Any Suggestions guys!

Sounds good

October Meet De-brief

Hi All

Thanks for an interesting and fun evening. It was great to meet up with fellow Drupallers - Drupal Shops - and all.

A big thanks to Cathcart Associates who sponsored the evening and remarkably managed to grasp what the conversations were about! Well done!

I managed to watch the 'Entities' presentation from DrupalCon which was forwarded to me by Paul M which is here for anyone else interested - http://london2011.drupal.org/conference/sessions/entities-emerging-patte...
It's really good - and along with some further reading - a sleep on the kitchen table and a gallon of coffee - it's all making sense.

Looking forward to the next one ..

G.
