A group of us broke away from the overall redesign sprint @ DrupalCamp Cologne, to specifically discuss theming. We worked on outlining a few action items, and setting some deadlines. Here is what we came up with.
A supported browser guide - Past Due
As soon as theming was mentioned, the discussion of ie6 came up. Rather than spend the next hour in debate, we felt the community would be best served if we decided on an official plan for browser support. We decided to start by looking at the YUI graded browser system. We came up with a wiki page. There is also a discussion on the topic.
Jan. 28th Selecting a base theme
We should decide on a good base theme. There is already a discussion on the topic here. We discussed a homebrew/custom theme, or forking Blueprint, or Zen.
Feb 4th Establishing naming conventions
We thought it would be great to break the design into regions/blocks, and come up with a naming scheme for the page elements. Establishing this in the beginning should reduce overlap and confusion.
Feb 8th a starting point
The Paris sprint starts on February 9th. We should try to settle on the above items, and have a starting point for the Paris sprint. Ideally we will have our theme selected, and forked. Checked into SVN, and ideally a starting page.tpl. Our goal is to do the prep work, so the themers in Paris can hit the ground running.
This is a lot to cover in a couple weeks, but we felt it would be good to get these items out of the way before the Paris sprint. We are also looking for a couple themers, hopefully near Paris, help out. If you know of somone please Let us know
