Hi Group,
Very glad to stumble upon this group! I run a small marketing firm out of Halifax, and we are looking to be more active in building Drupal-based sites for our small business clients. Is this group very active? Are there members interested in Drupal work? We don't have steady work.. but the whole 'Drupal World' is very new to us, so really looking to connect with some talented and experienced Drupal gurus.
Until now we've spoken about Drupal only with foreign-based providers... It is relieving to hear that Drupal usage is alive and well with some people here in Nova Scotia, as well.
Look forward to hearing from some people. Thanks!

I've a few years experience
I've a few years experience and am also in Halifax, but haven't found this group to be too active - or at all really :( I'm always looking for people in the area who are interested in Drupal as well.
Good choice on looking into Drupal more, it's such a great platform. Seeing as you said you're newer to Drupal, If you're looking for local help, info, or just a discussion let me know!
Sam.
We've had some challenges
We've had some challenges trying to secure a meeting location, as well as clear agenda's for meetups.
Perhaps we could get something going in the new year.
I would like to start getting together again also
I would like to start getting together again. Quite a lot of water under the bridge, 7.x is finally becoming very robust and module-rich. I liked the volunteer show-and-tell format.
And to Sam, there is actually a great deal of Drupal work being done in Halifax / Nova Scotia area. It is far far beyond being experimental, a novelty or just getting started. The developer community ranges from people putting in 70 - 80 hours a week tying to keep up with Drupal project delivery to people who could still use a bit more work. People bill out their time for contract work from $40 to $75 / hour (and above), employee arrangements seem to totally cover the range from the low end to the high end.
in simple terms it is definitely a mature industry but still growing.
I happen to be one of those who has work but would be glad to look at more.
As to the meeting place, I have an office space with a suitable board room but it is way down in Chester, so not likely we can meet there. As for Halifax we did have some possible spots, but for whatever reasons they don't seem available any longer. When we were meeting somewhat regularly the size seemed to range from a regular 3-5 to the biggest bunch I saw was maybe 9 so a lot of space is not necessary.
I am one who is in favor of community simply for community sake, but also notice that a group can often have a bigger "voice" or influence if ever an influence is needed.
so welcome to the Nova Scotia Drupal collection.
donwinchell, I never for a
donwinchell, I never for a moment doubted that there's not a lot of work being done with Drupal in the area. I was only saying that since joining the group, it hasn't been active.
If you thought I was saying I believe it to be a novelty or underdeveloped platform, you couldn't be more wrong (misread?). As I mentioned, I've been using it for several years, including building a few dozen sites. I put in my 40+ a week, and they're usually exclusive to Drupal.
Anyway, +1 for a meet up in the new year.
My apology for misreading/interpreting your post
all the best
I will look froward to the
I will look froward to the next meet-up be it before or after Christmas. There are so many places we can hold a get-together: Library, University, Pub.
Let's not let location hold us back. On one hand I'm pretty busy until Christmas but on the other January seems pretty far away.
I have 7 installed locally and was able to work with it for a bit this fall, but will totally gear up for a meet-up geared to Drupal directions.
While so much is done on-line, there is nothing like connecting with others to feel out direction. I'll do my best to make it (from PEI), where and when-ever. Might even be able to car-pool with some other Drupal minded Islanders :)
Let's Do It!

Anyone up for a meet-up in Dec?
Hello All,
In a previous thread I mentioned the company I am working with now (http://TheRedSpace.com) located in Bedford, has offered up its meeting space for our meet-ups. Then the summer hit, and now the fall is very busy.
But, is anyone up for a meet-up in December. I will start the ball rolling with 2 suggestions:
- Thurs Dec 1
- Thurs Dec 15
If there is enough interest or alternate suggestions, then we'll create a poll.
I look forward to hearing back from everyone.
Cheers,
Geoff

Dec 1 or 15 works for me.

Always wanting to learn more
Always wanting to learn more about Drupal and what everyone has created. Both dates are good for me.
I could make the 15th
I can not make the 1st ,
Love to pick up on this again even if it means a trip to Dartmouth :-)
and glad Trevor can make it.
I'm not doing much Drupal
I'm not doing much Drupal work anymore, but I would definitely come out to the meeting just to keep up on the happenings in the Drupal world. Either date works for me as well.
My schedule is reasonably
My schedule is reasonably flexible. If we're going to have a meeting, we should really have some sort of structure. A presentation topic or two, then discussions of some form, otherwise we may as well all just head to the mooseheads game with Drupal TShirts on :)
Looking forward to our next meeting.
Any topic suggestions?
Meeting content (vs football in Drupal T-shirts)
Maybe we need some suggestions.
I personally appreciated people just sharing what they felt was interesting/relevant to them.
we covered drush a couple times, memchache, saw some site demos and had reports on drupalcon and latest developments in the Drupal world. (some other stuff I don't remember)
I also felt that having the pizza soda thing helped somewhat as people could see this as dinner to some degree maybe easing some schedule issues.
I am in favor of developing some sort of regular agenda. This is on-the-fly but I will throw it out maybe just to get some discussion (or ridicule) going.
1) hello, how are you, who's new (and waiting for everyone to arrive and get settled)
1a) Joke of the week. Someone tells one good joke.
2) presentation by per-arranged volunteer (their choice, or from requests at previous meeting)
3) let's help each other if we can.
---if someone is facing a technical challenge, trying to make a decision on which module to use, needs a few hours (or weeks) of free or for-hire development, consulting or advice.
--- what's happening in the industry. perceived trends, local opportunities or threats, lay-offs, hirings, openings.
4) clean up the space, and thank our host(s)
5) good night and good luck
Good start on a structure
Don, thanks for outlining a structure for the meeting. Being on the organizing committee for another technology user group, I know how important it is to plan ahead and have an agenda. This is what draws members (apart from food and drink :). Most people won't want to be part of the organization but will respond to something that looks well organized.
As far as topics go, how about something on upgrades/updates? D7 is getting established and a lot of folks are thinking about or planning to make the leap. Maybe not the sexiest topic, but practical.

Count me in
New to the whole drupal thing and would really enjoy meeting up - just to meet with people who actually use drupal! Learning the whole thing in a vacuum.
