Gathering Drupalists in Sri Lanka

I would like to host another Drupal gathering in Colombo. This is to discuss about your Drupal and how to be a good contributor and popular in the community and also good chance to meet up the local community.

I know there are lot of Sri Lankan Drupallers out there but few of them have already joined to this group.

Where should we host? and when?. Open for your suggestions.

I guess a weekend date would work better, but my weekends in Nov are buggered... maybe in Dec, or is that too late?

I imagine anyone who participates is definitely building sites using drupal (commercially or otherwise), but some may also be theming, beta testing, developing modules, etc. - so our areas of interest, as well as what kind of help we would like to get from a local drupal community could be quite diverse.

Maybe an approach would be for people to share their current work and challenges, and see if anyone is able to help out?
(also by seeing each other's work, we could get different inspirations - from a module we didn't know about, to a workaround for something that had vexed us, ...)

Alternatively we can do some introductory sessions for newbies like "What and Why Drupal?"

me? do a session? only if there'll be a whole bunch of drupal newbies present :D

BTW one thing I really need from the community is someone who can develop themes commercially (I can build the sites, I can mess around with CSS and even sometimes tpl of free themes, but building a theme from scratch is not my game) so I can concentrate on the back-end.
I know there are some website companies who develop using drupal but they seem resistant to do just the theme.

I live in Kandy but sure to attend if you are going to host one. let me know time and venue :)

I have some friends who do raw PHP web development and they don't like Drupal because they can't understand basics. May be a "fool's guide to Drupal" or something like that would be great - just to let them understand the basics and Drupal-specific vocab. most words, starting from "node", "taxonomy" to "arguments", "hooks" look strange to today's Sri Lankan Wordpress-savvy people. Also, would you guys mind writing some local stuff about Drupal ? Have a look at Drupal at Libraries group. it's awesome.

Well, I believe we can arrange somewhere like an office space or MC around in Kollupity or Bamba. I have no idea how many of you will attend so if everyone can post an confirmation of 17th (If its not oki, propose a new date) then we can finalize the date first.

I think 18th Sunday might be better cos Y2B is only on 17th, and 24-25 and 31-1 weekends tend to be heavy with social commitments!
basically if it's not on 17/18 weekend then it's probably going to be in Jan.

I also don't see we have the time to really prepare sessions and such for 18th, but maybe what is needed is just to get together, get to know each other a bit, talk about whatever interests us (use Open Space Technology) and then we might be ready for a more prepared session the next time around?
