policy for job postings

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I want to once again raise an issue about what should be considered on-topic and acceptable for job postings in this group (and this site in general).

This has been discussed a number of times in the past in NYC meetups and IRC (and probably here in the group). It seems that almost every time this has been motivated by the same recruiter.

Can we somewhere explicitly state that job postings are for people to post positions available, not for recruiters to post info about people they represent that are looking for jobs?

If we do not draw this line clearly, we could be overwhelmed with "hire me" posts that, in my opinion, have no place here.

the latest post that crosses this line is http://groups.drupal.org/node/188444 . the person who posted it has been asked in the past to refrain from this sort of post. A simple google search will show that over the past decade or so he has been banned from numerous mailing lists, websites and communities and he shows a pattern of not respecting the communities he recruits from.

So, first I'd like to get us to once again agree that job posts are for jobs available, not resumes -- and once we do that I'd like to give Beau one last warning that he will be banned from the NYC group (and possible the site as a whole) if he tries again.

Thoughts? Comments?

The explanatory text when

The explanatory text when posting a job node makes it pretty clear that it's for job postings, so I don't think that we need to change anything specifically for the NYC group.

As a group organizer for NYC I have neither the permissions to ban an individual from a group, nor do I have permissions to delete a node. The only thing we can do is file an issue reporting a node or user as spam/abuse/misuse. I'd recommend contacting this use to notify them that they've used the jobs posting inappropriately, and file an issue noting this at http://drupal.org/project/issues/groupsdrupalorg and requesting the job posting be deleted. Further misuse can be noted in that ticket and appropriate action taken.

I had a look in that queue but couldn't see anything related to user "oss" before:

Eric - do you want to go ahead and create that ticket and link to the "simple google search" that you mentioned?

ok

Can you remove the post from the group for now?

I'll create the ticket shortly and include the following

he was banned from the WWWAC (world wide web artists consortium) mailing list years ago for his lack of respect and sketchy style

a quick search of Beau Gould Banned on google results in:

banned from postgres jobs list

asked to stop posting to the Bay Area python users group

Create Ad

mossy2100's picture

This has come up before (of course) and fits into the same category as people who want to post advertisements for their services. The whole problem could be solved by simply creating an "Ad" or "Advertisement" content type and having a Create Ad link in the right hand toolbar. I don't know why this never seems to happen, it's such a simple and obvious solution. But no-one at GDO seems to have any leadership or authority or pro-activeness or whatever it takes to improve the site.

another possiblity

It might not be a lack of leadership, it could be a very pro-active position taken by people that do not believe that advertisements for services or resumes would be an improvement to this site or the community. It could be that the solution is to accept that such content is simply not appropriate nor included here -- problem solved.

problem not solved

However, the problem is not solved, otherwise it wouldn't keep raising it's head! Sorry if you think that GDO is perfect the way it is, but it is a community site, and hence the people who use it should have a voice.

Hi, The DA has several places

Hi,

The DA has several places for those, but this isn't one.

But no-one at GDO seems to have any leadership

Please don't confuse lack of action in the direction you want as lack of leadership.

Thanks!

The "fags like you suck d***" comment says it all. If I was king, this guy would be banned from living.

This thread is in both the GDO group and the NYC group, so please be aware that it's being read by lots of people. I'll take care of contacting the guy mentioned in Eric's original post, and will file an issue in the GDO issue queue (as I wrote before, I can't NYC group organizers can't remove posts).

Where to post?

saf001's picture

We are looking for interns, and possibly independent consultants, in the Grand Rapids (Michigan) area. Where should I post such a listing?

Thanks!

Oop - I was "searching"...

Nevermind!
