On Saturday, November 19, we are organizing an open Hackaton to provide Drupalistas with an opportunity to get their hands dirty with VoIP Drupal and push the limits of the platform.

VoIP Drupal (http://drupal.org/project/voipdrupal/) is an innovative open source framework that makes it easy to build Drupal websites that literally pick-up the phone, make calls, record messages, broadcast audio, and more. By enabling the creation of hybrid systems that combine web, SMS, email, and touch tone phone technologies together, VoIP Drupal takes “community plumbing” into a new dimension, facilitating the implementation of community outreach initiatives, phone-based polls, voice menus, audio blogs, click-to-call systems, and much more. Features include:
* Common API that facilitates interaction with different Internet-telephony providers such as Twilio, Tropo and Plivo (FreeSWITCH)
* Simple dialplan scripting language for the creation of interactive phone calls with voice menus, conference calls, audio recording and more
* Sample code and sandbox that help people explore and play with the different aspects of the platform (http://voipdrupal.org/)
* An already-existing suite of modules that extends and builds upon VoIP Drupal capabilities (http://drupal.org/node/1078790)

The goal of the event is to contribute to the development and adoption of VoIP Drupal. For the past year, VoIP Drupal has been under intense construction by the MIT Center for Civic Media team. Now it is time to bring VoIP Drupal to version 1.0, demonstrate what it can do, and build a strong and supportive community around it. VoIP Drupal can extend Drupal in very interesting ways. Let's make sure the platform can live up to its potential!

What's the best date and time for the VoIP Drupal meetup?

leoburd's picture

Hello all,

Based on the feedback that I'm getting, it seems that November 19th might not be the best date for the VoIP Drupal Hackaton. :(

If you'd like to have a good time building voice and SMS applications with our platform, please fill in the Doodle below:

Hopefully, some of those dates are going to work!

Best,

How about conferencing this?

pal4life's picture

Hi,
The NYC community has a lot of creative folks and some may be willing to work on this. So is there a way to manage this so we can do it here in NY rather than travel all the way for a couple of hours. The concept is surely very interesting and I would be willing to work on this form here in NY.

Hello Nadir,

Thanks for your interest in promoting VoIP Drupal in NYC!

We're proposing a session for the upcoming Drupal Camp NYC (http://bit.ly/vwqaus), but haven't got any confirmation, yet.

Independent of anything, if you manage to get a group of interested developers, we'd be happy to run a VoIP Drupal web conference with you. Also, depending on the size of the group, we might also be able to run a face-to-face workshop/hackaton in NYC itself. What do you think?

BTW, is Do Something a Drupal site? I'm a big fan of that organization!

Best,

Leo

Count me in.

I'm a New York-based developer who'd definitely be interested, as long as the timing works out.
