Dev House Boston (http://upcoming.org/event/126815/) is a brand new event giving programmers and designers the opportunity to hack out something cool, in a day, and present it to lots of interested people. And at the end of the day -- whether you've got working code, page mockups, or just an elevator pitch -- you'll share your work with a group of people who know where you're coming from.

I would like to invite Drupal developers to use the opportunity and work together on a SIMPLE Contact Management module. CiviCRM is great but seems to be overkill for many situations. Maybe we can use as a starting concept Touchbase, a 15 year old program for the Macintosh. Touchbase's main strength was its simplicity. Fore more info email: diehl at alum.mit.edu.

I've just started using Drupal and already installed and configured it for a small number of sites, both personal and professional. I'll attend for a few hours mostly as a fly on the wall. I don't program in PHP but I do do PERL and everything else under the sun.

I hope enough people show up. This could be interesting. One project at work I'm consulting for could use a simple contact list module like this.

I think adding something simpler than CiviCRM to Drupal is a great idea, but the precise goal needs to be clear. CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management, which means something different to me than Contact Management. I don't know how many others are familiar with Touchbase, but I'm not, so it's not a useful starting point for me.

As much as I'd like to participate on this date, I don't work Saturdays. It would be nice if there were additional ways to participate, either before or after.

Finally, could we please minimize the number of communication channels? I count the following:

  1. This group (which includes both RSS and email feeds)
  2. Upcoming.org (a Yahoo company, but doesn't recognize my Yahoo login)
  3. devboston.pbwiki.com
  4. The Yahoo devhouseboston group
  5. The diehl at alum.mit.edu address mentioned above

It appears that Dev House Boston is independent of Drupal, but it's hard to say (since the wiki page just points to two other events in the way of explanation, and they just point to others - life is too short to spend walking through twisty little web pages all alike). That may explain some of the channel duplication, but doesn't endear them to me.

Planning meeting to design a Contact Managment module

Gary - I would love to get together with you BEFORE December 9 to brainstorm about the design of a simple Contact Management module. Please email or call me at 617-621-9937 (yet another communication channel, sorry) to set up a time. Once we have established a time and place to meet, I suggest to announce the info here on the list in order to make it possible for additional people to join in.

Planning meeting Tuesday, December 5

Gary and I will meet Tuesday, December 5, 6pm at the MIT Student Center, new food court on the second floor. Would be great if more folks interested in Drupal could join us.
