Por unos días de la semana pasada, un grupo de Drupaleros sudamericanos se reunió en Washington DC para sumergirse en el mundo Drupal, conocer gente y en general tener un tiempo maravilloso en la Capital de los EU. Algunos de ellos como yo, estuvieron hasta el último minuto en busca de entradas que se habían agotado mucho antes de empezar la conferencia.

(Supongo que la mejor recomendación es obtener sus entradas con anticipación para París).
Nunca pude obtener una entrada a la conferencia, pero no pude resistir la tentación de ir, aunque sea el último día y reunirme con gente de la comunidad Drupal peruana que había conocido por Internet.
Es realmente gracioso cuánto llegas a conocer a las personas en línea sin antes de tener un encuentro cara a cara. Gran sorpresa, no sólo conocí a los peruanos (develCuy y Joyita), pero Drupaleros de Colombia, Venezuela, Brasil y Argentina. Y algunos Drupaleros con un corazón sudamericano como Margeaux y Rosamunda.
Creo en el BOF de Drupalcon Sudamérica, algo mágico sucedió. No sólo todos tenían sus propias ideas acerca de la reunión, pero empezábamos a sentir que de alguna manera se estaban convirtiendo en un grupo con diferentes metas a corto plazo, pero un único y sencillo sueño a largo plazo. Tener el primer Drupalcon en Sudamérica.
Todas esas ideas, incluso si eran realmente contrastantes reafirman nuestro firme necesidad de llegar a nuestro objetivo, organizarnos y trabajar en nuestros grupos locales y de esta forma hacer la comunidad sudamericana más fuerte.
Todavía estoy digiriendo muchas de las cosas que se dijo ese día con la esperanza de colaborar más. Les muestro algunas de mis fotos personales. En la foto del grupo me ven con el polo de Drupal Perú. A todo el mundo le gusto mucho el diseño y el buen trabajo que Fernando hizo promoviendo el grupo local de Drupal Perú a toda la comunidad.
Como profesional de tecnología y un peruano que vive US, creo que Drupal no solo me hace más productivo en mi carrera, pero es una herramienta para conocer personas que se preocupan profundamente por el proyecto y quieren ver que tenga éxito.

For a few days last week, a handful of South American Drupalers traveled to Washington DC to acquaint themselves with Drupal knowledge, meet people and overall have a wonderful time in the US Capital. Some of them like me were to the last minute looking for tickets that had long been sold out to attend the conference. (I guess the best recommendation is to get your tickets early for Paris).
I never got a ticket but could not resist the temptation to go even for a day and meet people from the Peruvian Community I had met online. It is really funny how much you get to know people over the wire without meeting them face to face. Great surprise, I not only meet Peruvians (develCuy and Joyita) but Drupalers of Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina. And some Drupalers with a South American heart, Margeaux and Rosamunda.
I believe during the BOF for Drupalcon South America, something magical happened. Not only everybody had something to say about the status of Drupal in South America but we were starting to feel that somehow we were becoming a group with different short term goals but a single and simple long term ante. To have a Drupalcon in South America. All of those ideas even if they were conflicting really reaffirm our strong need to reach our goal, organize ourselves and work in our local groups which in term will make the whole south American community stronger.
I am still digesting many of the things that were said that day and hope to give more feedback. Here some of the pictures I have taken. I got the Drupal Peru shirt and you see me wearing it at the group picture. Everybody was raving about the shirt design and the good job Fernando did promoting the Local Drupal Peru group to the whole community.
As a Technology Professional and a Peruvian living in NYC, I feel that Drupal is not only making my career more productive but is bringing me to meet people that deeply care about the project and want to see it succeed.
