Outcomes

We had a good turnout for this planning meeting, with ten attendees and several apologies. As a result of discussions, the group agreed the following:

  1. Meetups will be held monthly (on a day to be determined).
  2. Each meetup will be themed, with themes to be decided by the group organisers but based on group input. We'll try and do this as far in advance as possible to allow time to prepare.
  3. Meetups will be based around short sessions of presentations or tutorials, with time for interaction and discussion. Sessions will be capped at 18 minutes, meaning we will have 2-3 per meetup.
  4. We will try to cover a range of skill levels, and presenters will be required to inform in advance of their sessions level, to help attendees.
  5. Venue is to be confirmed, several people are looking into this. A city location was preferred, but not essential.
  6. Time is dependent on the venue, however 6pm for a 6.30 start was a good compromise.
  7. Eventbrite will be used for signups.
  8. Im still looking into a good way to vote on session themes...

The group will be managed by a small organising team, currently Justin, Adam, Adrian, Leanne and Chris.

Other actions arising from the meeting:
- Justin Freeman will look into setting up a mailing list, and investigate reprinting some t-shirts (thanks Justin)
- Adam Atteia will investigate a logo design for the group, and an invitation to kick things off (thanks Adam)

Some other things we discussed:
- The group is open to invited speakers from time-to-time, speaking on related but non-Drupal issues (e.g. Accessibility)
- We have a preferred hashtag: #drupalACT
- Depending on the venue, we'll look at running the meetings in a Google Hangout as well
- The idea of sponsorship was discussed. The general mood was that in-kind support was okay.
- There may be a once-a-month drinks in addition to the Meetups, but no proposal was agreed.

Staying in touch:
- Right here, in the Australia Group on groups.drupal.org
- On the Facebook group (http://on.fb.me/wqE5yv)
- On the Google+ page

Only local images are allowed.

Great write-up Chris!

I'll second the comments by Justin - nice job, Chris!

A few other things - I used this logo for the twitter account - Not sure what people think, but happy to give someone the source files if they want to try something else.

Also, can I request/suggest that event signups stay on GDO? Instead of using eventbrite, I can create a meetup group using the same account as the Sydney one since its already paid for.

I'm really excited to see so much momentum, I'm just aware each individual region probably isn't big enough yet to warrant separate places for organization yet. In the spirit of Drupal lets join forces and avoid fragmenting efforts. :-)

Exciting news

Good to hear that this is happening. I live halfway between Canberra and Sydney, and find it a pain to battle the Sydney traffic to attend the Sydney user group. Canberra meetings would be great!

I'm keen & excited too!

I'm new to Drupal and have looked at attending meetings in Syd but haven't because of the distance so It'll be great to be able to attend locally.

Cheers,
Ben Waller.
