What does my new position at Development Seed mean for Aegir?

By now, many of you are probably aware of the fact that I have joined the Development Seed team.

Before I go into the specifics, I would just like to thank Raincity Studios, for giving me the opportunity to start this project. Without their support, Aegir might never have gotten off the ground, and the experience I gained from developing and maintaining Hostmaster (Aegir's predecessor) has been invaluable in guiding the Aegir project to where it is today. I wish them all the best of luck, and I look forward to seeing them prosper from the foresight that guided them to support the project thus far.

I would further like to assure people who might feel that the project is at a crossroads, that this is simply not the case. Development Seed are an amazing group of people, who fully comprehend the potential of this project, and are excited to be involved with us. While I was searching for a new sponsor to further my development of Aegir, Development Seed was always near the top of the list, not only because of the amazingly intelligent people they have working for them, but also because they have a 'product culture'.

I feel that the Aegir project will greatly benefit from the focus of "Aegir as a product", because it will give us the onus to scratch so many more itches than we would if we were just focussing on running a hosted service. One of the goals of this project has always been to be as useful as possible to as many people as possible, and I feel that the shift in focus will allow us to fulfill that goal more completely.

Keep watching for future announcements related to this new focus, but for the short term, the project continues on as ever.
